Hello Resourceful Mammas,

You all have such wonderful insight and I have enjoyed this website immensely for my children's issues. Now it's my turn and I was hoping for a referral to an accupunturist/herbalist in the Bay Area mainly to deal with perimenopausal issues. I really want to be sure to see a recommended professional as there are lots of people out there who "claim" to be professional but who really aren't. Thank you in advance!

I can highly recommend Shirley Nichols who is in San Mateo - ###-###-####. She has treated me and my family for the past ten years. I actually consider her my primary physician since there's very little a western doctor can do for me that she can't do. I have had next to no symptoms wrt to periomenopause and menopause through Shirley's care. She practices 5 elements, a pre-Mao version of accupuncture that treats the spirit so the body heals from the inside out. I had tried a modern accupuncturist (post-Mao) where they were trained to not treat "spirit" just symptoms with little success. When I switched to Shirley she cured my 10 years of allergy suffering in 3 months with no recurrence. Something western doctors and my post-Mao accupuncturist couldn't do.

Good luck,
P.

Jen at Cypress Natural Medicine in Palo Alto. She's AMAZING! To the point where I want to stop referring her to people because she's hard to book. Let me know if you need their phone number. Tell them J. Shah sent you. Good luck!

Hi J.,
I don't know your exact location, but this acupuncturist is in Oakland. I worked for her for 2 years and my Mother saw her for perimenopausal symptoms. Her specialty for years has been women's issues; fertility, painful periods, menopause, etc... She is very highly regarded and has lots of experience. She is also extremely kind.
Here's her url:

Best of luck!
p.s. My mother's doctor's were pushing a hysterectomy and she made it through despite fibroids and heavy bleeding with the acupuncture. She's now menopausal and fine, with all her parts intact!

I have been to several accupuncturists and the only one that I felt helped me was Qi Han. Dr. Han teaches accupuncture as well as practicing it. He is in Campbell by the Pruneyard, and his phone number is 1-888-681-6598.

East West University of Acupuncture in Sunnyvale on El Camino. My mom is visiting from out of town and had to receive her acupuncture treatment and was referred to them from her doctor in Texas. It is $25/treatment which is done by the students that are close to graduating under the supervision of a licensed acupuncturist.

Hi J. -

I very highly recommend Dr. Linh Nguyen at the Speed Healing Center in Milpitas.

500 E.Calaveras Blvd Suite 120

He is basically our family acupuncturist, and I've been seeing him off and on for many years. Most recently, I have been seeing him throughout my current pregnancy. I was having some issues very early on in the pregnancy and my ob-gyn, who I love, couldn't determine the cause. I was very worried, especially since I had miscarried before. Dr. Nguyen was able to resolve my issue, and has been helping me stay healthy and strong (I'm now almost 8.5 months!).

I've referred many people to Dr. Nguyen, for a variety of issues. One friend was in the middle of treatment for breast cancer, another client of mine was having hot flashes so strong they were waking her at night. Dr. Nguyen has been able to help the vast majority of my referrals.

He does take insurance, but if you're like me and your insurance does not cover acupuncture, his prices are also VERY reasonable. He is open Mon, Tue and Thurs-Sat.

Best of luck!

I love Dr Henry Lee on Castro St, Mountain View. He is absolutely fantastic. I have seen him and he has worked wonders for me. He is extremely busy so call in advance for your appts or else you will never get in. He takes insurance and is very reasonable with pricing. Good luck.
