I am wondering if there are moms out there who have gone to an acupuncturist throughout their pregnancy. I have been seeing an acupuncturist for 1 year and love it! Everything I have read and what my acupuncturist has said all point to it being a good thing to continue doing while pregnant. Just looking for other moms who might have gone through it.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I cannot thank everyone enough for all of your support and advice. It made it very easy for me to make my decision to continue with acupuncture. I have to say that it has saved me! It has helped my allergies, mood, nausea, aches and pains, headaches, anxiety, and many other issues. I am in my 2nd trimester now and I am definitely going to continue. I always feel ten times better when I walk out of my acupuncturist's office. It gives me some time to focus on me. I get to relax and have some down time. I don't get that very often after a full day's work and a 5 year old at home! Thanks again to everyone who responded to my request. It is much appreciated!

Hi I am an acupuncturist and a mom and its great during pregnancy for the morning sickness, sleep, energy and any other pregnancy symptoms.... There becomes less and less we can do as the pregnancy goes on and points we shouldnt do at all. Make sure your practitioner knows what to do with pregnancy- she or he should, we learn it in school. Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy.

I also had accupunture throughout both of my pregnancies, mostly to help relieve terrible morning sickness. As long as your OB is aware and your accupuncturist knows not to treat anywhere near your feet or ankles (possibility of inducing labor), it should be fine.

Hi -

I had acupuncture 5 or 6 times during the second and third trimesters of my pregnancy for sleep issues (and took some pregnancy-safe teas) with great success. I highly recommend it, providing that you like and trust your practitioner, which seems to be the case.

Good luck to you,
H.

I was seeing an acupuncturist when I got pregnant, and was told I couldn't return until I was into my 2nd trimester. Unfortunately, I never returned, just because my acupuncturist was kind of a drive from my work and my home. But my friend went to her acupuncturist throughout her 2nd and 3rd trimester, and had no problems, and enjoyed it.

I had acupuncture that helped to induce my labor. I wanted that instead of being induced with pitocin and it worked.

I used accupuncture throughout both of my pregnancies and was much better for it. Not only can it help you but it can also assist your baby while in the womb. If your open to it now and I would continue with it. :)

I had acupuncture every week during my pregnancy. I had been going off and on over the 10 or so years prior to my pregnancy, and it had always been very helpful. I felt that it was important to go often during pregnancy to help with the hormonal changes that were happening in my body, and also to just keep things in balance overall. I ended up having lots of acupuncture (1-3x/day) in the last week of my pregnancy to help with induction. In the end, I think it not only helped me go into labor, but also helped things move along quickly when I did.

I did not have it during pregnancy, except at the end to induce labor (my water broke but I didn't go into labor right away--every hour you spend with your water broken can increase the chance of infection, so after 24 hours had passed, they tried several natural methods to induce, but only the acupuncture worked).

As long as your acupuncturist has knowledge and experience with acupuncture during pregnancy, you should do fine (if not, perhaps s/he could refer you to someone). Many pregnant women use acupuncture safely.

I had acupuncture during my pregnancy for some pain issues and then had it during labor. It didn't help with the pain during labor, but it did certainly help me stop pushing when I wasn't ready to.

Good luck!

Hi there,

I had a little accupuncture during my first pregnancy but have done it consistently throughout my second, every 3-4 weeks since about 3 months. I'm 3 weeks from my due date and can't imagine how I could have gotten through this pregnancy without it. It's been a huge help with back, leg and feet pain. It's also helped a little with my energy level.

I go to my acupuncturist only if I have an issue. I'm a firm believer in acupuncture. I have always had success (ovarian cysts, sinus infection, pregnancy migraine) with my acupuncture treatments and after I was treated, these problems have NEVER returned. My acupuncturist actually specializes in women's issues (PMS, Menopause, Infertility, Pregnancy) although he treats pretty much everything. According to him acupuncture is absolutely safe during pregnancy and can even help with morning sickness, turning a breech baby, induce a past due baby, and ease pain DURING labor. I say go for it girl!

I did acupuncture when trying to GET pregnant... and now that I am, (with twins!) I started hypnobirthing classes. They told me to go back when I mentioned how I am having issues sleeping. She said she directs women to acupuncture for many reasons, fear or anxiety, relaxation for labor, discomfort...ect. Just make sure that your person has experience with prenatal because you don't want to force contractions by hitting the wrong spot! :) best of luck to you!

hi J.......congrats on your pregnancy!!!! i'm a huge believer in acupunture in general, but even more so throughtout pregnancy. i'm a former pre/post-natal fitness trainer......so i would often recommend my clients seek the benefits of acupunture during their pregnancies as well. i had my first child @ forty and my sencond @ 43.....they are now both 9 and 6 - strong and healthy!!! i was fortunate to have two extremely calm preganancies and deliveries depite the fact that the were both big babies...the first being 8 1/2lbs and the 2nd 10 1/2 lls, both natural births.....all this to say i firmly believe in acupuncture before, during and after pregnancy as well.....don't forgot the after!!!! enjoy your pregnancy and labor...it''s truly a miracle of life!!!

I received both chiropractic and acupuncture throughout my pregnancy and found both of them to be helpful in relieving physical discomfort and promoting calm & overall well-being. Also, these healing visits involved a good amount of one-on-one time with the practitioner, in comparison with the short visits provided by Ob/Gyn. It's valuable to receive nurturing care during pregnancy, and the health benefits of acupuncture are many!

I have, twice, with both my pregnancies. It is fabulous and I HIGHLY recommend it. I did it because I had very bad morning sickness for about 6 months of my pregnancy... and migraines. After just one session, it stopped. Completely. I o nly had to have 1-2 sessions. That's all. It is the ONLY thing that helped. However, I would go to an acupuncturist that is experienced with pregnant moms. Although, in their training, if skilled, they will "know" how to handle any situation. Good luck,
~Susan

Yes, I saw one when my daughter was late and used it to induce naturally (when the doctor insisted on inducing at 42 weeks).

Then when I was pregnant again, I saw her through out the entire pregnancy. It will help you tremendously with the discomforts of pregnancy. Just be sure your acupuncturist is knowledgeable in dealing with pregnancy. My acupuncturist knew the places to avoid to make sure not to trigger labor too soon.

It will also be helpful postpartum when dealing with the hormone fluctuations. Good luck with everything!

I had acupuncture before, during, and after my pregnancy. It can ONLY help you!!! It can also turn a breach baby, help to get your labor started if you are late, and even help with pain during labor! Keep doing it for sure. :)

I had it a few times while I was pregnant. As long as your acupuncturist is licensed, I'm sure they know what areas to stay away from. I refused to take any medication for pain & discomfort while pregnant so this was a nice alternative. :)

We did! It was so wonderful! I wish we could've afforded to do it every week throughout but only did the first 4 months. Keep it up if you can! =) A.
