Hi,

I'm looking for a beautifully crafted advent calendar that can remain in our family for years. We trying to incorporate new traditions in our family for our 18 month old daughter. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also, my mom flies in today for a very short visit. Do any of you have an festive ideas for things that we can do with her?

Sincerely,

P.

What can I do next?

We always do Advent calendars! We buy a new, chocolate one each year. We started them after a trip to Germany one November. They're wonderful!

I remember the beautiful Advent calendars in Heidelberg...... some were $60 or more! I couldn't find any elaborate ones on line but I found this....

Then I found this very expensive Advent calendar that is the type you want, but I'd have to get a loan for this one!

I know Costco had some but I don't know the quality of it because with 3 little ones I just don't buy anything nice. They just seem to break nice things quickly in my house. I know I saw some at the Lewisville one just last weekend.

I've also been looking around for an advent calendar with out much luck but didn't know if you have tried looking at JoAnn's Craft Store. I think I remember seeing some there before but if they don't have any you could always make one yourself if you're crafty. That way it'll have even more meaning as the years go by since it was made by your hands. I also remember seeing an ad for some made in the back of my Lutheran Witness magazine so if I run across it again I'll let you know.

You should check out www.etsy.com. It's a website that has thousands of sellers on there who make and sell their own handmade items. My sister and I have a store on there and we have done really well for the short time we have been on there! I'll bet you'll find what you're looking for on there, among a lot of other great Christmas gift ideas! I tried going to the site to find one, but it looks like it's down right now! Here's the link to our shop, I was wanting to tell you about this site, because you could put your stuff on there too! Let me know if you have any questions about it!

As far as places to go, you can check out this place, we went there for Halloween when they had their pumpkin patch. During Christmas time they have tons of Christmas trees! http://flowermoundchristmastrees.com/activities.html
