We are going with my husband on a business trip to San Antionio. It's a 3 hour drive away, and we stay in the hotel his business is paying for. It also has really nice free breakfast and dinners. His company is totally fine that families can come. We do our own thing, and after his large conferences are done for the day, we meet up and go out.

The thing is, the hotel ends on Wednesday, and we wanted to take the kids to Sea World. Which means we would have to pay an extra night b/c Sea World isn't open until the following day. Then, we would have to pay to go to Sea World. We totally can't afford to pay an extra night at the hotel AND go to Sea World if that is the case. So, Monday-Wednesday, what can I take the kids to do that is fairly cheap/free? I'm 8 months pregnant, so the Riverwalk during the day is out! The boys are 6 and 4... so touring the Alamo is likely out, but we can still walk around it and do the Ripleys Believe it or Not, but what about the other days? We can't afford Feista Texas either. I'm sure we will mostly be spending the time in the hotel duing the day. I'm just really bummed, what's the point in going to San Antinio if we can't go to SeaWorld?

What can I do next?

I think you are letting the emotion of the moment get the best of you. The kids can have fun in the hotel pool. The Alamo is real close. The riverwalk has boats that travel the river and should be fun for the kids. If you have trained your kids to hold your hands they should be managable for short stroll on the riverwalk. The riverwalk has benches so you can rest frequently as needed. Bring along a book or two to read to the kids. The story of the Alamo has been written about in kids books many times and should be of interest to the kids. The riverwalk at night has all kinds of lights that twinkle and should be of interest to the kids. If you stop at subway or McD or BL or Wendy's you should be able to get something cheap and easy to eat so the kids can have a picnic.

You are only limited by your imagination. But if your doctor has put you on bed rest you shouldn't go.

Good luck to you and yours.

If the room costs too much, then cut back on the restaurant meals so that Sea World becomes more affordable.

Maybe the business he works for has free tickets to Sea World?

Maybe you could step down from the expensive hotel to a budget hotel on that extra night and save enough to afford the Sea World tickets?

The Best Western at North San Antonio has a deal where you can get 4 Sea World tickets with the purchase of a nights stay, actually a few hotels there have this.Maybe you could stay there for the extra night instead?

Your 4 yr old would like the Kiddie Park, and it's near the zoo. The Whitte Museum is also nearby there, and probably your best/cheap bet.http://wittemuseum.org/ Downtown there is the Buckhorn Museum, where it does cost to go into the museum part, but just the entry-way and cafe area has neat stuff to look at. Downtown you can also do a river barge ride (so you can sit) and learn history of the Riverwalk. My mom (a tour guide in SA) suggested if you are staying downtown, to purchase a River Taxi pass. She also said that the children's museum is good. When are you going? Splashtown and Shlitterban are great water-parks in the summertime. Don't stay in the hotel all day! If you can't afford much, at least get a drive to a local playground. If you don't go to SeaWorld, what about Natural Bridge Caverns? It's not anywhere close to downtown, but if there are no caves where you're at, then this is a unique learning experience.

I think if SeaWorld is your thing, you should see what you can do to get a different hotel (cheaper) for the extra night. San Antonio is a high-tourism area - there are TONS of hotels here and there and everywhere!

added: Magik Theatre is showing "Click Clack Moo" -- it's like the book acted out in a play for kids. They're located downtown. http://www.magiktheatre.org/about/index.html

El Mercado (the Market) is tons of fun! My kids love it, and so do I. It's so colorful, and there is sometimes live music. You can take the trolley for less than a dollar from pretty much anywhere.

Even at 6 and 4, the Alamo would still be fun, not the official tour, but walking around the grounds, and all of the Ripley's places across the street are fun to see even if you don't pay to actually go in.

Have a great time! San Antonio is one of my favorite places in the world!
