Revamping Yourself...

I kind of want to give myself a makeover. I've always been attracted to the old school rock a billy, pin up up look, but I've been too lazy and tired as a mom of 3 to be bothered with learning to do my hair and make up, find clothes, etc. I literally roll out of bed in the morning, throw my hair in a ponytail, then live in plain tank tops and jean shorts (or pajama pants!)...

Have you ever done something like this for yourself? I guess it's more like an overall lifestyle change. How do you get out of bed and style your hair, do your make up every day? Did you just discipline yourself to do it? I guess easing myself into this is my best bet... I'm just tired of looking like a slob all the time and want to revamp ME. I want my true colors to show, I want to be me! (Okay, the pin up thing, obviously I can't look like that every single day, I'd just like to make more of an effort I guess).

How did you/do you revamp yourself? What did you do for YOU?

What can I do next?

I don't know but I tend to think that "put together" doesn't always require a "re-vamp", know what I mean? Sometimes it's just making that extra effort to pull it all together to be "better" but still you.

About two years ago I had to do this. I believe a particularl TLC What Not To Wear spurred this. . .
I made a list of key wardrobe things I needed for 1. work outs 2. work 3. weekend
Then looked in my closet and did some serious thinning if the items I came across didn't meet my list. No matter how personally attached I was to my 5K t-shirt or the sweater my sister gave me 8 years ago - if it didn't meet the list, it was removed. I seriously had to donate a number (more than half) of it. It was either wrong size, too young, too cheap or didn't meet the list.
From there I had a nice, clean pallet to build an appropriate and usable wardrobe. Whew.
It took time and I couldn't go out an replace everything (nor did I want to) but today, my sleek, clean closet and clothes I can wear confidently are sooo much more valuable than all the other stuff.
Hope that helps get you off in a good direction - oh, yeah I am a car make up person too that or I do it at work - LOL!

I am in the process of revamping....Trying to lose weight...Got the Brazillian Blowout (Smoothing Treatment for my hair) Going to invest in Latisse as my eyelashes a little thin....and a few cute outfits. While I wear make-up I am lazy about putting on lipstick...I am going to try doing that...I feel better about myself and know that just because I am a Mom doesn't mean I am washed up! I depise getting older ugh...Oh well. I say to all women just do the best you can for yourself.

I am on the same path. I did what you said and found MY style and everyday I take a few minutes to look in a magazine or online and if I see something I like I will print it and file it in my style file (a binder). I purchase a piece at a time that is in my style file (maynot be the exact same but close)a purse, shoes, stocking, earrings ect......I cleaned out all of my old make up and purchased a make up bin, I am experimenting with new make up and perfumes. My hobby is garage sales and I have found many good finds this summer to add to my closet.

Good Luck!

Good for you! I like that you want to make a change.
Out with the old and in with the new I always say. So get rid of most of those "Slobby" clothes so your not tempted to put them on. Spend some time at the mall look at the mannequins what style says you and then go on line and look at different web sites for what you like that is reasonably priced. Spend some time on line with those make up and hair web sites with everything else in life you need to put in the time and do some research. Good luck on you look fabulous!

Well, lately I am getting a blow dry professionally done. Yes, once a week I go to have my hair nicely done at the hairdresser. It's a luxury that I can afford now (15/20 euros each time) so why not? I look a lot more "put together". Also I have been indulging with clothes and shoes...high hills especially. A more updated, femininine, version of me I guess...I feel better!
Next I plan to get a massage once a week (will give up the hair and the shopping sprees though) so I'll be in good shape NEXT summer. Men seems to take notice (yay!) but I really do it because I feel good about myself, so why not keeping it up?

I don't know, I'm comfy and practical in my tanks and jean shorts. It's the look that my husband prefers too!!! So it's a win win for me!

I would look at local GoodWill and thrift stores for some clothes to love! Do your kids take naps? Maybe you could be a "slob" until nap time, then get some work done, then vamp yourself up!!!
For me, a few new pairs of undies and a nice perfume go along way in how I feel.

*Also had to add that if you quit Mamapedia you'd have more than enough time to vamp yourself :) But I know that's NOT an option (or worth it :)

start collecting hats. my hubby is crazy on hats, we have about 50 that hang on our walls of all shapes, sizes, styles and colors.
sometimes all you need is the right hat to create a look. I love it that I can throw on my cut off, faded overalls, a pair of big sunglasses and a hat that fits my mood and off I go.

whoooooa, baby! You've gone from "boobs hurting" to rockabilly/pinup girl!

2 cute, 2 funny! & I'm not being mean....you are making me smile! Thank you!

Now for my answer: give yourself an extra 15 minutes of "ME" time & you'll be amazed at the outcome. Before you go to bed, plan your outfit for the next day. Make sure you are thinking of the new "you" & it'll be easier... because you're a MOM & mornings can be heck! Good Luck!

Yes, I struggle with this too. For awhile, I've been thinking that I need to purchase "grown-up" clothes. I have gotten a few pieces, but I've also updated my comfy look. I wear those sporty skorts paired with a fitted t-shirt and heeled flip flops (Sketchers that I bought at TJ Maxx). Still casual, but not sloppy. You could also get some summer dresses. Throw that on when you go to the store - that will make a big difference in the way you feel about yourself.

Due to budget constraints, I've had to forgo my summer pedicures, but I keep my toes/feet looking nice.

I prefer tinted lip gloss to lipstick for the summer. I don't always use mascara, but I'll put on eyeliner (fun colors for the summer - Wet N Wild had some great colors). I am tan for me, but I use a little pink/peach blush.

I've always envied those women that look all put together every day and make it look effortless. I've never been that way without a lot of effort, but I do what I can.

Your all over the board today love :-) lol

I do my make up in the car on the way to work (YES at Red lights wink wink) and I have to wear 'dressy' clothes for work, I'm an administrative asst. BUT I think it would be really hard (For me anyways) to not want to be a slob while I worked from home and took care of 3 kids, the house etc!
FORCE yourself to get up and get 'Dolled up' for 7 days straight, yes weekend too, and I BET you'll love seeing yourself being and looking Fabulous like YOURSELF that you will keep it up :-) and ROB will enjoy it too, which will make you one happy mama!!!!

Great question!! I find myself loving my days at home in my yoga pants and a tank top - when I can put my hair up and not worry about the mascara. But when I really am putting effort into my work, I go ahead and get up and dressed and ready for work, then go to my office on the first floor (or the couch if I want to be super comfy). It is nice to have days to get dressed and going, and days to be at home and comfy. Just find a mix that works for you. I normally put mascara on even if I'm not going anywhere, because if i I want to run out quickly, I just can. If I'm home though, my hair is up - at least when it's hot outside. I don't know if I have any really good suggestions, but maybe go shopping with someone who isn't really YOUR style (my mom is always good for this) and you'll find things you LOVE. Two of my favorite shirts right now my mom picked out, I never would have taken them off the shelf to try them on!

You do it for YOU. Besides it makes you feel special. If you got some nice lacy undies put them on. You'd be surprised how this helps your attitude.

I told this to a cousin who did in home daycare once and she said she tried it and it made a world of difference in how she felt.

Just because you are home doesn't mean you have to walk around looking like you just got out of bed a minute ago. Your husband will want to know what is up with your change. He may even think you have a friend on the side when it is actually him. Put in a little effort on your part for you each day. I say a little each day because the change to where you are didn't happen overnight and it will take determination on your part to get back to the you before kids.

Stop by the hairdresser and explain to her that you are wanting a new image and go over looks before you cut your hair. If you are not sure you like the style get a wig and see if that is what you really want. Stop by a make up counter in a department store and let them do a make over and get tips on the things that you like and then play with it. Last on the list is a good store with clothes and get ideas, try them on and if you need a new bra get fitted. Yes it costs a bit but you will look a whole lot better in the end. I am not saying the show What Not to Wear because a lot of the things they do may not be for you (they seem to gear it around working people).

As you make a budget for back to school clothes for your kids you should always include something for you. I know that Rome wasn't built in a day and it took a lot of trial and error you will find something that really clicks. It might be a color that you like that you make your basic color and then bounce other colors off of it.

Sorry to be so long winded but you are a work in progress and you are going to get better like a fine wine.

I asked ladies what they wore everyday a few months back and got some great ideas. A few simple things that I have done have made a huge change in my overall "look". For one thing, I started getting my nails done twice a month. I have them paint my toes to match, just getting the paint is much less expensive than the pedicure. It adds to a finished look, and my husband has told me my nails or feet look pretty many times. He never complained before, but he obviously appreciates the effort now. Also, I wear mom clothes most days and don a ponytail. But now I add earings, a pretty watch, or whatever accessories look right. I use at least a tinted moisturizer, mascara, and colorstay lipgloss. It takes less than five minutes. When you have time or a special date, go all out with your look. But little changes make a big difference for your everyday appearance.

After having my second child, I was in survival mode for quite some time. It felt like a privilege to get a shower most days - forget about primping! It has been wonderful to get back to being able to give myself some attention. Have fun!
