Researching Daycares in McKinney

My family is moving to McKinney in March and I wanted to start researching daycares in the area (we are going to be off Virginia). My daughter will be 5 in June and starting Kindergarten next year so I need one that will cater to after school care. My son will be 3 by the time that we move and will need full time daycare. Does anyone have any recommendations/suggestions on where to start? We are currently at a Children’s Lighthouse and have had a good experience there...Thanks!

What can I do next?

I just did the research so that I could have my son in a more structured environment (he is 17 months old and has been at an in-home since he was 8 weeks).

There is a new facility at Stonebridge and Eldorado called Childrens Courtyard. I have been very pleased so far! He eats really healthy and balanced meals, it is clean, it is new, and I just have a good gut feeling when I walk in there.

I had him go to the one that is in the parking lot of Market Street (I forgot the name of it) and I pulled him after 1 week. It was a good school from what I heard, but it was depressing...paper peeling off the walls, older toys, etc. I just felt bad leaving him there.

I've just finished doing research on a lot of the daycares in McKinney, so hope I can help. I toured Children's Courtyard at Stonebridge and Eldorado, Merryhill (Market Street parking lot), Primrose of Stonebrooke on Virginia, and Daffofils down on 720.

I had heard great things about Daffodils so was excited to go see it. I didn't get a very friendly person when I first called, but I still scheduled a tour. I just did not have a warm fuzzy at all. The school was so quiet when we visited no sounds of children having fun. My husband and 19 month old daughter came with me on the tour. Not one person acknowledged that my daughter was even there. So as soon as we walked out both my husband and I said "No way".

Next up was Merryhill. The school seemed very run down and old. Once again, no warm fuzzy.

We finally visited Children's Courtyard and Primrose. My husband and I both loved both of these schools. Primrose is slightly older but the staff were extremely friendly. My neighbors daughter has been going there for the past couple of years and loves it. We really loved Children's Courtyard. It is brand new, clean, loads of toys and all the staff are warm and friendly. We ended up picking Children's Courtyard as it is on our way to work. We have been going there for about a month and are extremely happy so far. I would definitely recommend that you tour both Primrose on Virginia and Children's Courtyard.

I don't recommened Children's Lighthouse either. We had my son there when we first moved here, he was just under 2 and they had him in the 1.5 yr old room but sometimes he'd go into the 2 year old room. I arrived one day to pick him up and he was playing in the toilet. That was my last straw, we found a home daycare and moved to it after that.

Now my youngest is at Kids R Kids on Custer and Westridge, we just started about a month ago but he really enjoys it. I know there is a Kids R Kids near that Children's Lighthouse that is a bit cheaper but its also an older building. We had neighbors that had kids in Primose on Virginia and they really liked it there.

Hello,

I would recommend Kids R Kids on Custer and Westridge as well! I love it and so do my kids! All of the teachers that I have had experience with are great and the owner is very personable and approachable! I have a 3 yr old that still goes there and a 5 yr old that went for the summer. Unfortunately they don't pick up from my sons school or he would still go there, but is there on Holidays from the school.
Good Luck to you!

I agree with Childrens Courtyard or Primrose on Eldorado also. Childrens Lighthouse in McKinney is a big NO NO NO NO but when I toured others, I agree with the other opinions that Courtyard and Primrose were great, and that Merryhill is also a NO! Make sure when you tour, you go into the room and meet the teacher, ask specific questions about what they do so that you hear it right from the teacher and not some canned response from the front office. My experience at those two schools I mentioned was very pleasant and the kids all looked like they were having fun and learning.

I had my daughter at Children's Lighthouse on Eldorado and it was horrible. She was still in diapers but caught the Roto Virus numerous time, and was always getting sick. All around the place was poorly run.

We ended up at Primrose on Virginia it was WONDERFUL. I know stay home with my little one, but if I had to work I would take her back to Primrose in a heart beat. We loved all of the teachers, the director, everyone!
