I'm ready to pull my hair out - my 5 1/2 year old decided to draw on the tile around the fireplace with marker - and no it's not the wash off kind! I've tried the magic eraser, lysol wipes, nail polish remover - and while it's gotten marginally lighter, it's still very much there - would appreciate any ideas! Thanks!
If it's permanent marker, it's alcohol-based and alcohol would take it off. Or you could try a mild abrasive, depending on the kind of tile you have. Try Barkeeper's Friend (it's next to Comet at Walmart). It's the only thing that really gets stains out of ceramic sinks, too. I have used it on my glass shower doors to get off the major hard-water deposits, and it didn't scratch it at all.
If you can't dissolve it off, rub it off!
You may try a product from Mary Kay called Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover. It worked great on marker at my friends house off her wall....just a thought! There are some mom-owned businesses here!

Sharpie? Reactivate with the sharpie and IMMEDITELY wipe off then clean the smear with rubbing alcohol.
WD40- works wonders on taking crayon off in one wipe maybe try in a small spot on the marker???
GooGone! Removes old paint on clothes, carpet, etc...pretty much anything. Just go to a local paint store or home repair place like Lowes.... Ftom a "seasoned" mom a mom of five!
Good 'ol acetone is wonderful. Just buy it at the hardware store--it's cheaper.

Don't you love our little artists! With 5 kids most everything has been touched by a pen or 2. Have you tried steel wool &/or barkeepers friend?
There is a product called Sol-u-mel that will get the marker out. If you are not completely satisfied, the company will refund your money completely. In my experience with this product, it got hair dye out of curtains, fingernail polish out of grout, and so much more. The amazing thing is it is safe for your family to us and not harmful to the environment. In fact, it is safe enough to use on your skin for other ailments. I use rubbing alcohol. It takes elbow grease but it will eventually come out. It's also great for getting off stickers or tape residue. I use it at work a lot also.

It may depend on the type of permanent marker used but I have had luck removing Sharpie markers from my kitchen table (wood) and from dry erase boards by going over them with a dry erase MARKER, not cleaner, and then wiping it off. Something about the chemical make-up of the dry erase ink breaks down the permanent ink. However, over the holiday break the kids used some type of alcohol based markers that were for decorating ornaments and this method did not remove stray marks from my table. Good luck!!
This may sound a little weird but try Brake Parts Cleaner. You can buy it an AutoZone or Checker. Spray a little on a rag and wipe the marker, but keep it well away from the kids. It removes Sharpie and other permanent marker.
Go to the hardware store and ask them, I think acetone works but there might be something better.
Try straight rubbing alcohol--that's the component of the other cleaners that can dissolve ink. I groaned when I read your post. . . you have my sincere sympathy and best wishes!
try clorox clean up and comet, i have gotten permanent marker off my stove and fridge with it.
