I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good preschool in my area. Also, is there such a thing as "public" or free preschool? How old do your kids need to be to attend? And how far in advance do you need to sign up? Thanks!

you said San Mateo area...I don't know if Redwood City is to far away for you. Our preschool is Redwood Parents Nursery School. We have classes for toddlers (13mo and walking to 36mo) thru Pre-K (4 yr old). I have a son in toddlers and my daughter is in Pre-K. I am also on the board. Our school is a co-op and the community is amazing. I attended this school as a child and love it dearly. We do charge a tuition fee. we have a wonderful website too. It will give you all the dates and amounts per class. As far as a free preschools go you can try family connections. They have a wonderful program too.

I loved Merry Mopppet in Belmont. Three out of my four kids went there. The kids usually need to be about 2 1/2 or 2 and 9 months and potty trained to go to preschool. Good Luck!

Hi N.,
I don't know about preschools in San Mateo; however, there is an excellent preschool in South San Francisco that I would recommend. It is located in the Oyster Point area of SSF. It is called The Early Years.
Good luck in your search.

My daughter goes to Bridge Point Academy in San Mateo. It's on El Camino and 14th Ave. She started when she was 3.5 yrs and has been going for about 6 months. She loves it! Her teacher is patient with the kids. They do a lot of art, have music class, computer class, and french class (once a week). The school is new and always clean. I highly recommend it! Also, they have to be 2 yrs old to start and don't have to be potty trained.
