I was just curious if anyone has delivered there. I am a week away from due date and that is the hospital I am using. Just thought I would throw the question out there. I have heard that Presby Plano is great so I am hoping that Presby Allen will be great too.

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for the responses. I had toured the hospital and we picked that one b/c everyone seemed to be so nice and it was smaller. Since I am a first time mom that makes me feel a lot less anxious!!!!!

I delivered my daughter there 4 years ago and my 8 month old son there and both experiences were great! No worries--
As others have already said, I felt like I was the only one there. Especially as a first time mom, they were very helpful and always willing to help with anything from breast feeding (the most amazing lactation consultant,Vicki!!!) to helping with baby's first bath)
The second time around, they were sooo sweet to my older daughter and even walked her to the snack room...made her feel so big and special. I really can't say enough good things about the experience. One nurse knew I was tired the second night after my c-section, so she offered to only bring the baby for nursing during the night and I was relieved to get some extra sleep! Sorry to go on and on-
E-mail me if you have any specific ?'s-
Hope this helps and best wishes to you!

I would like to agree with the other ladies about the wonderful experience at Presby Allen. The staff and nurses do a wonderful job taking care of you. Vicki the lactation nurse is wonderful and you can continue to call her after you deliver, so if you're interested in breastfeeding and have any issues/doubts afterwards, call her first before stopping. Your meals are ordered via a menu and you call when you want the food, which is a nice feature! I got a hamburger and fries the 2nd night which was absolutely delicious!

I would strongly suggest you bring your own pillow or two (colored pillow cases so you don't get them confused with the hospital's) as the pillows are not that supportive and they only have a few. If the hospital is full when you are there, you may not get one.

They strongly encourage the baby to stay in the room with you while you are there. They will take them away for some testing every once in a while, but for the majority of the time, they encourage you to bond with your baby. My hubby didn't stay overnight and I had a c-section, so after feeding the baby, I did ask the nurses to take my baby out of the room for my rest, but they would bring her back in immediately when she was hungry.

Also, take as many of the classes as you can. I found them very helpful to ease my pregnacy and delivery jitters.

Hi L.,
My birthday is March 15th. Good luck to you and the new baby!!!
I delivered my daughter at Presby Allen about 2 and half years ago and it was really nice. I had been on bedrest there for about 2 weeks so I had gotten to know all of the nurses by the time I delivered. I agree that they make you feel like you're the only one there. And they are very competent and helpful. Vicki is a wonderful lactation consultant also!
I know that they've expanded some since I delivered and have added a neo-natal unit so I think you and the baby will be in great hands.
Congratulations!

I had a planned C-sect there Aug 05 due to a breach baby and had bittersweet experience with the nurses etc. Everyone was nice/ok except this one nurse who came in the room in the middle of the night flipped on all of the lights at 3 am (w/ the baby and my husband sound asleep) and, after announcing that she had been an RN for twenty some odd yrs, started preaching to us about how to be parents. She had asked if this was the first child and we made the mistake of answering yes. It is my first child and my husband's second. (she started in w/ obvious info like "make sure you don't leave pennies lying around, etc) We didn't ask her for any of this. She analyzed the baby from head to toe (undressing him completely after he had been asleep)and started pointing out problems (which the dr had already told us about and said were normal and would be ok on their own). She was very bossy and very strange in her behavior. After she left the room, my husband and I just looked at each other and were very annoyed. I was too out of it to complain to anyone above her, but it was just really weird. And of course I can't remember her name, just that she had long dark hair and is VERY opiniated and controlling. She's been bossed around by one too many dr's I guess.

then when it was time to check out, the nurses were running around like crazy and they forgot to give me some of my paperwork. I think they had an overload that day. I would not go back there. I'll go somewhere else next time.

Hi L., I delivered my 4 year old son at Presby and my 2 year old daughter at Presby Allen (because she came so fast, we didn't have time to get to our scheduled hospital). They were both great. Plano was a little almost "spa-like" in their approach (i.e. really pampering the mother) whereas in Allen, they seemed took a more natural approach (i.e. no meds for mom in less she really needs them...sounds right!). Allen promoted keeping your baby in the room with you at all times, while Plano promoted taking the baby to the nursury so mom could get rest. I delivered my baby in 10 minutes from walking in the door at Allen and they were fine...very laid back, easy breezy delivery...they were confident and competent. You have no worries from my perspective. Have a happy delivery!

I had my daughter there on Halloween 5 years ago and a good friend of mine had her son there a year and a half ago. What I liked best was the feeling that I was the only one having a baby but their ward was not so big that every nurse knew all of the babies by sight that were in the nursery, etc. I recommend it any chance I get.
