Anti-depressants will not help you with peri menapouse or menapouse, I just went to a new ob/gyn and I finally got the correct diagnose & treatment. Progesterone is what I was needing for a healthier state of mind, literally it has saved my life. Ant-depressant is for a chemical imbalance in the brain not to treat hormonal imbalances & I believe this is so true to a T! I am 40 years old & thought I was going crazy with being so washy washy about life. It took a new ob/gyn to listen to me, my last one would just prescribe me anti-depressants or up my dose. Not the Answer. Hope this helps!

Night sweats are a type of hot flash.
Estroven helped me a lot.
I still got a 'power surge' every once in awhile but the frequency was greatly reduced.
I started with the hot flashes in my mid 40's.
Now I'm 51 and I still get my period - 73 days between cycles but I still get them.
I'm just now at the point where I don't have hot flashes anymore (I stopped taking Estroven about 6 months ago) and now sometimes I can even feel cold (I could NOT feel cold no matter what for the longest time).
At this point I can hardly wait for full menopause to get here already.
I just want to never deal with periods ever again!

Go talk to your gyn. You need to tell her exactly what's going on, and you need a blood test to check your hormone levels.

This is a tough time, K.. Don't go through it without help.

I just lived through it. Certainly was not going to take hormone replacements. Dress in layers. Night sweats; I just got up and changed.
To me it was just something you go through. It eventually gets better.
Hang In. Make sure you get out, exercise and do not get in a rut.

Exercise. 30 min. 5x per week is recommended, although I think you can break it up into 10 min. periods.

I've been dealing with hot flashes for eight years now. My gyn gave me samples of premarin which made me very weak and sick. I've been going to a women's midlife specialist who put me on progesterone which helps. I've learned that diet is important. Coconut oil helps considerably--use it instead of cooking oil or butter. Fat helps control glycemic levels in your blood. totally avoid caffeine and try to avoid chocolate but sometimes the pleasure is worth the pain. Non-organic dairy products and commercially raised beef, pork, etc. contain hormones which I try to avoid. Even oil of olay products contain hormones so I don't use them. Sugar and corn syrup or any other high glycemic foods are to be avoided also. And dress in layers, don't wear turtlenecks. Fresh air and sunshine help along with 'earthing' or being connected to the earth. This could be in your bathtub because the pipes connect to the earth.

I am going through this right now - I am having terrible hot flashes, night and day. I feel very moody and "not my self".

You can buy a tiny little personal fan that you can use on the desk top or table - that helps me at work. I also dress in layers and take my sweater on and off all day long. I sleep in just a light tank top, although I still wake up burning hot. I wasn't getting any sleep for awhile because of the night hot flashes - someone told me to try Tylenol PM and that helped me stay asleep all night.

I went to the gyn the other day because I have been so uncomfortable. He prescribed Zovia a low dose birthcontol, In the past I have not like how birthcontrol has made me feel in the past. I did fill the prescription but have not taken it yet - not sure if I will.

My gyn also suggested drinking a cup of soy mild each day - he said alot of woman claim that it works very well.

I am trying to accept my changing body but that is very hard - I feel very depressed about everything going "south". I have started to exercise a little more, which hopefully will help with my mood.

Anyway, I will be watching your post for suggestions, as you can tell from my answers I really have not found a perfect solution to this.
