Preemie Grunting? Is This Normal?

Hi moms. I had a baby boy 2 1/2 weeks ago born at 33 weeks gestation. He has been home with us for 1 week now and starting 2 nights ago he has been making these grunting noises. It kind of sounds like a baby goat. I thought that he might have gas and tried gas drops but it didn't help. Has anyone had any experience with this? He does have a doctor's appointment on Friday but was wondering if anyone had any experience with this. Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We went to the doctor today and his belly sounded good...the doctor said that as long as he is pooping daily and not straining to go, he is fine. He says that we just have a noisy baby! Thanks for all of your input!

My 5 year old twin boys were 15 weeks early when they were born and they both grunted for a long time after coming home. But my daughter who was only 4 weeks early grunted as well but not as much as the boys did.

My hunch is that he is fine. My son was born 9 wks. early and he made a grunting sound, too. It was kind of cute...
I think some full term babies even make grunting noises. It's funny how his grunting sound faded away after awhile.

Congratulations on the birth of your baby boy!

I had two babies born at full term and one grunted for a short time and then stopped (and it happened to be my boy who grunted!) He was perfectly healthy and it went away so I figured it was just a "little man" sound. However, follow your instincts and please bring it up to your DR. if you are concerned. Congratulations on Baby # 3!

My baby girl was preemie and she made that goat noise too :) I was worried and called my ped about it and he told me all was normal. I agree though if you are worried never hesitate to call the doc. Enjoy it because before you know it you will be saying "hey what happened to that grunting, he doesn't do that anymore. Good Luck.

I have twins who were 6 weeks early and they grunted. But I believe this isn't a "preemie" characteristic but just a newborn. When in doubt ever and for peace of mind, call your doctor. :) Congrats.
