Posture - Houston,TX

Since I gave birth to my son, 5 weeks ago today I've noticed my posture is horrible. I seem to be hunched over all the time! I don't know if it's because all of the sudden I don't have this big pregnant belly, or the increased breast size or what!? I'm trying to pay attention to it, so it doesn't become a habit. Anyone else notice the same thing?

What can I do next?

Yes, I have. I think it is a mixture of both the weight you used to carry, the chest area and somehow the hip muscles - one of the key areas to maintaining posture has weakened. I have to make a conscious effort to stay tall. I remind myself that if my chest and belly says hello, then it is time to straighten up. :-))

Are you breastfeeding? I found myself hunching over for this and the boppy pillow helped cue me to sit up straight and bring my baby to the breast rather than the other way around. You may also want to go online for some good back extensor strengthening exercises. Good luck!

Breastfeeding made me like that! My shoulders are constantly hunched up and forward, I have to remind my self to pull them down and back all the time!

Same as the others. Breastfeeding, cradling, shoulders rolled forward as that is where my attention was. After about two months I went back to yoga and that helped a lot. Also helped with baby bonding with daddy and grandparents. Congratulations!!

My Dr. once said that it is because we are always leaning over changing diapers all of the time. :)
