Hi there,
I've been seeing Dr. Ralph's nurse practitioner Faith Beerman in Plantation. Anyone have any experience with their practice? Also any experiences at Plantation General Hospital?
Thanks

Hi,
I have lived in South Florida since 2001 and it is a huge adjustment. I had my son at Planantation General Hospital in 2005. It was a great experience. My OB/GYN is Dr. Solomon in Plantation he is an angel on earth. He is the greatest!.

I hope this helps.

Hi N.,

I am a NP myself and just had my first child at PGH last August. I also worked at PGH while I was a RN. I had a very high risk pregnancy and was constantly at the ER and spent my last 3 weeks in the Perinatal Unit. If you are high risk that's the place you want to be. Everyone was excellent and I had the best OB/GYN Dr. Solomon. Also they do have a level 3 ICU if your baby is very sick. I read the other negative responses and as a Nurse and now a NP I can say that everyone has their perception of what they believe is good service. There is good and bad at every hospital that I have worked. Since I was in the unit I obviously had a private room, and once I went to the floor I paid for one. It was $99/day, it was totally worth it. You should be their a minimum of 2-3 days. I couldn't have asked for better service. Hope this helps you. Congratulations on your baby, if you think that you have been in love before just wait until she/he is here.

Hi N.,

I have two girls both delivered at Plantation GH. AND Dr. Ralph , even though he was not my DR. was the Dr. on call and delivered my first daughter 7 years ago. I remember he was VERY business and did not mess around. She had the cord wrapped around her neck and he handled it great. My OB is Dr. Sterghous who I really like...not a huge wait when you are pregnant but for your regular annual visite a very long wait. Re: the room situation at PGH: My only advice is PAY extra for the private room and if you can get the suite (which is even more $$$, GO for it...so worth it!!!!) Enjoy your pregnancy...

In regards to the private rooms, my husband and I were told that we could not reserve it that it was for first time first served basis, so when I gave birth there was another woman giving birth that apparently 'knew' someone, so they had reserved the room for her. My husband and I were very upset because we had wanted to pay for the room before giving birth because I really wanted a private room. We complained and finally they let us have the room. The whole experience was terrible. My doctor was also Dr. Jay Cohen, he has great, but I wished he delivered at another hospital.

Congratulations, Im also due in May with my 3rd, still can't believe it. I see Dr. Kenneth Selbst in Plantation so I am not familiar with the practice you see BUT I have delivered both my children at Plantation General and I loved it there, they are all very helpful and nice, My only complaint is that they dont have all private rooms for after the baby is born so if you want one you have to pay more because insurance doesnt cover it and hope that they have one available for you, other than that as far as the experience it was great, if you want more details or you want to talk about anything at all let me know. my email is: ____@____.com you having a boy or girl, im having a boy. good luck!!!

Hey N.- My name is M. and I am a native of Florida- I have an almost 5 yr old daughter and I delivered her at Plantation General. I had a great experience. My OBGYN is Dr. Jay Cohen in Plantation and I too had some issues at the end of my pregnancy- (Hypertension). I had to go to the ER and then spend some time on the perinatal unit. The staff were all professional and warm and caring especially when it was time to have the baby. Good luck with everything.- My husband is from NY so I can understand when you say that your still not getting used to anything down here.

well.....they don't call Plantation General Hospital the "ghetto hospital" for nothing....it is overcrowded & I have heard nothing but horror stories of new moms waiting & waiting & waiting for the doctor, their meds, the lactation consultant, a nurse, their food, etc etc.
You NEVER get a private room, unless you know someone.

I delivered at Memorial West, where EVERYONE gets a private room & the nurses were excellent. My doctor, Dr. Jose Santos, was wonderful - very very attentive. But regardless, I would NEVER go to Plantation General. Run, don't walk, to find another place to go.
I am from NYC, and I totally agree with you - it is HARD not to compare things to back East, where there was never a wait in Dr.'s offices, and everything was at your disposable, not to mention the quality of everything was better....I feel for you.
Good luck.

I had a bad experience at PGH, and a woman I know almost lost her child because of nurse practicioner Marla Soloman (seriously). She had her daughter at 6 mths, weighing about 2 lbs. The fact that her daughter lived is a miracle. Her OB was out, so Soloman saw her. She went in complaining that she had every sign of hypertension and Solomon blew it off. Anyway.... I would never use her again.

As for PGH, it doesn't matter now where I go now because I'll probably get another C section. I blame the first one on the young nurses at PGH that put me right on pitocin as soon as I walked in, even though I was already having contractions on my own. Not to mention the guy who gave me the epidural didn't know how to work the machine and told me he gave me too much... my daughter's heart rate dropped. i was later rushed to emergency c, but the block didn't work and i felt them tearing me apart.. i was then put under. the whole experience sucked. did i mention that the on call dr. barely showed up in time? yeah, he was "stuck in traffic". that was dr. ufferman. BUT, my daughter did come out perfect, so who knows. BTW - if they take your baby at night for you, don't be surprised to find him/her in the nurses station instead of in the nursery. i did.
