We are getting out daughters ears pierced at the beginging of march for her 1st birthday. I know some are against it and that is fine. I posted a question a while back about it, but what i am wondering now is how did your baby do if you have chosen to get their ears pierced? Did you have any problems with them? Did your baby have a harder time sleeping? What type of earings did you get and how long did you leave the studs in before you switched them? Im not looking for advice on weather i should do this or not just wondering how it went for your babies if you have done this. Do you have any good tips for after they are pierced. I have 7 pericings in my ears so i know how to care for them, but im sure its a bit more tricky with a baby. Thanks moms!!

What can I do next?

Mine got ripped out of my ears via rough play as a kid (by this time, I was 6 or 7... and a tom boy). The scars are still there over 30 years later. Although she probably won't have the strength to do this as a baby, keep this in mind if she ends up being a tomboy type of kid... at least she will have had them for awhile, so taking them off for rough play won't be a big deal and her holes won't close by then!

peircing a baby girls ears is permanent, painful, purely cultural , merely for looks and they dont have a choice in the matter..............but its the same with circumcision on boys. So if anyone gives you flak about your decision, a query about that will nip that argument in the bud (no pun intended)

I got my daughters ears pierced when she was 7 not a baby although i considered it with my second child. Get real gold and keep them clean, dont take out the real gold ones for any reason for at least 6 weeks. and just a cute idea. How adorable would little pearls look on a baby?

i got my daughters done when she was 2 months old at our piercing pagoda in the mall (they are the best!). i did not use the solution on her ears i treated it like a body piercing and cleaned it with water in her bath and then put neosporne on it. her ears healed in 4 weeks but i waited for the 6 week mark to take the earrings out. we got gold earrings for my daughter since i wasnt sure if she has my allergy to cheap metals. i also turned them maybe 3 times a day. i think it was more when i remembered since the more i fussed with them the more she did. all i can think of for the actual day she gets them done have a treat for her (sucker etc) so after she is done she can have her treat and be comforted :)

I just got my 9 month DD's pierced a couple days ago. She cried for a little while, but only until we distracted her. I would just take a favorite (or new) toy for her to play with when it's done... I got her little 24 kt studs. She hasn't had any issues at all. The hardest thing so far is trying to clean her ears when she doesn't want me messing with them... sometimes it's easier to let her sit in front of the mirror while I'm doing it.

In your case, I would try to find the flattest earrings you can, so that she won't be able to pull on them as easy. You should be able to find little flat flowers or something like that, still cute, but less for her to play with. They might be a little harder to clean well though...

We got our daughters done at 7 months. I went to a jewelry store. No probs at all, just used saline to clean them, she never had a problem sleeping, they weren't even red for more then 5 minutes (seriously). We also got platnium (I have ear sensitivities so this is what worked for my ears).
I did give her tylenol before we went, not sure if it helped but everyone I knew told me to.
I would say she went through the pulling her earrings out phase at around 18months...lasted a few months and now she completely leaves them alone. I also didn't have the screw back earrings in her ears, just regular earrings so they came out easy. But to avoid it you can get screw backs and they don't come out when the kids tug on them.
Bring someone with you to take lots of pictures!!! =)
Have fun!

I got my daughter's ears done when she was 2 months old. They looked so cute! i have never had a problem with them. I got the cz and stainless steel earrings and turned them a few times a day. My daughter never bothered or messed with them. The only time she cried was for about a minute after getting them done. i think she was more upset about having her head held straight for the piercing than she was about getting the piercing itself. Good Luck!

I think at this age, she may want to touch them or pull on them. I had my girls done around 2 to 3 months and didn't have any problems. Having piercings yourself, the same applies, stainless steel hypoalergenic, silver, or gold posts.

I'd leave the studs in for a minimum of 4 months. Longer would be better.

I was about 3 months old when my parents got my ears pierced. My grandneice got her ears pierced at 8 months. Your daughter will be fine. My mother and sister can only use 14ct gold earrings due to allergies. I can wear anything. Growing up my mom would buy the kind of earrings where the backs had to be screwed on. When you go to get her ear pierced they can tell you how long to leave her starter earrings in and offer you some variety for her.

Make sure the place has 2 people working so they can do both of her ears at the same time! I would purchase real gold, sterling silver or surgical steel post and leave them in for a long time - like at least one year. Clean them and turn them at least 2 times per day for awhile. Yes - she will be sore for a few days.

I did my daughters when she was 6 months old, at Wal-Mart of all places. I did not use the solution they gave me to clean them with. I bought a can of H2Ocean at Hot Topic, it is a spray can of sea salt that you use on body piercings. It's the best stuff out there, tattoo & piercing shops sell it (that's how I found out about it, from my piercings.) No, she never had trouble sleeping. Even though I thought they might be sore for awhile it never bothered her. I changed them after like 6 months. I went to Claires and bought a pair of earings that they pierce with so she still has the locking back on them, which I will continue to do for a long time. It is worth the extra money to be sure she isn't going to eat the back to her earing.

I would just be cautious of her wanting to pull at them, I got my DD ears pierced at 5 weeks. I was at the mall getting her pictures done and took the outing as an opportunity to do both. She cried for all of three seconds and never touched them. I got her studs, she is 5 months now and I still clean them often from spit up and what not but I haven't changed them.
We just used a huge cotton ball and soaked it in the solution and rubbed it on the front and back and I just made sure to twist them every time I fed her (she's breastfed so it was really easy to remember)

At her age you might want to try to bribe her with something : )
A little girl that was 5 months got her ears done right before we did our DD and you could hear her screaming until they left the mall.

My hubby is against this, so my only baby girl has to wait to get hers done until she asks for them herself :(

But all my cousin's baby girls had theirs pierced when they were ity-bity, way younger than 1...and not a single one of them (out of 8 girls) had any problems what so ever! Slept fine. They all went with real gold very small studs. Didn't change them out for @ 3 months. Care for them like you did your...making sure to twist them often!

The only problem we ever ran into in our family was with my sister...she was allergic to the silver? or whatever it was they first pierced her ears with, so they had to switch them out with real gold and ever since then
everyone's ears (including mine) got real gold, just to be on the safe side!

~I am so bummed I didn't get to pierce my daughter's ears...but I figure Daddy gets to have some say too...but it was hard not to pitch a fit about it! It just seems so easier to get them done when they are ity-bity...a lil' crying when it happens but nothing major, kinda like when they get shots at the Dr.'s office.

My only advice is to really look at the marks they put on, to show the placement and make sure they are straight...and absolutely ask how long the person has done it for and go with who ever has the most experience!

So cute! I would choose gold/diamond studs for my daughter had I had the choice...they match everything and are sparkly!
