At what age did you get your baby girl,s ears pierced? Did you have it done at the pediatrician's office? What did they charge? How long did you have to keep the piercing earrings in? Was it a difficult experience for your baby? What kind of earing backs did you have the most sucess with not losing?

What can I do next?

I got my DD's done when she was about 9 months old. We never had any issues with her pulling. I paid $10 at Walmart (I got sick of hubby procrastinating taking me to a tattoo place, where I wanted to take her because they have MUCH stricter regulations on piercing equipment... so I got them done while we were grocery shopping. lol.). That included the earrings, piercing, and ear-care solution. The I kept the piercing earrings in until this month, because I just haven't bothered to switch them. My DD cried for about 30 seconds, then I distracted her and she forgot about them. She has NEVER had ANY issues with them whatsoever. I would use a q-tip dipped in the solution to clean the front and back every morning, before and after her naps, and before bed until they healed. The piercing earrings are really good about not losing backs, because they click into place. They are actually kind of hard to get off... lol. But so far I have also had luck with regular earring backs, I just put those little clear rubber stoppers on behind the back to help hold it on, and keep it from poking her.

I absolutely LOVE earrings on little girls. I think they are adorable.

My daughter is 13 and I did hers at 7 weeks. She slept right through it. Several elderly ladies at my church snubbed their noses at me about it but I honestly didn't give a rat's patootie what they or any other person said. She was my baby and it ended up working out perfectly, never once in 13 years have her ears been infected. People will have an opinion about anything, you can't please everyone all the time so do what you want and don't worry about the naysayers.

I would wait until she can ask for them for herself.

They can often get infected.

That first piercing does hurt.

Not sure if they have the screwbacks for the first piercings both those help later for sure.

Be sure to clean them as instructed!

I'm going to warn you that you will get a lot of responses, and some not so friendly ones. That was my very first question on here 4 years ago and I almost stopped using the site because of it.

What I learned:
*A lot of people are against having baby's ears pierced before they can ask for it.
*If you decide to do it, have it done at a reputable place -- not in boutique in the mall by inexperienced staff.
*If you decide to do it before she asks, do it before baby is 5 months, because baby will start rolling and tugging at them and then after the toddler learning to walk stage because of serious risks of falling down and catching the earring on something.

Some will argue that it is a pain to rotate and clean the earrings on a baby as it is one more thing to keep up with and others will say that because you are already putting baby on the changing table to change her it is easy to clean the ears regularly.

I was on the fence for so long as what to do that I ran out of my suggested time frame above, and am waiting until she asks for them AND as ritual time of going into Kindergarten (something that was suggested and I liked it). When baby girl #2 came along, I chose to wait because we had already made a decision with girly #1.

Good luck with your decision and remember that IT IS YOURS to make. I do like having something to look forward to doing with her before K starts (again, our own ritual).

I worked at a jewelry kiosk in the mall and actually did the piercings. Just a heads up...if you have them done as a baby be aware that their ear lobes grow backward, so if you want the holes to end up In A normal spot when they are older, the holes need to be put fairly close to their face. Also be aware that they should not be done until they have at least had their first shots...make sure you use 14 karate gold only. Be prepared for a lot of screaming...but as soon as they are done she will be fine...just mad:). Hope that helps...good luck

My girls got their ears pierced when they actually wanted it AND when they were old enough to take care it themselves, one at 9, the other at 8.
My youngest just got a second piercing at Claire's and it was close to $60 (she's 12 now) but I'm not sure what they charge for an infant.

I have 2 girls(who are 4 and 5) My oldest we had her ears pierced at 3 months old. And my other daughter we waited til she was 11 months old.

My mom had my ears pierced when I was a baby also. Its seems alot easier because their little and wouldn't freak out like a older girl probably would. Some people of course will judge, but its like them getting a shot/shots at their pediatrician office, except with a hole in the ears which will close back up if you have the earings removed. My girls never grab or pull their earings out as babies(kinda like second nature to them) but my 4 year ever now and then will pull her earings out or mess with them. My girls cry like they got a shot when we got their ears pierced. A few minutes they were smiling like nothing happened.

They usually tell you to wait a month(i think) to about 6-8 weeks before changing their earings. I always waited about 8 weeks then change them,if i wanted to. I got their ears pierced at our super walmart. They charged the price for whatever earings you pick out to get pierced. I pick little gold balls earings(which was about 10.00 dollars)

I don't regret my choice of getting them done as babies/toddler. My oldest daughter now freaks out with shots or getting a finger prick. So I can only imangine if i had to get her ears pierced now.lol. She probably will freak out!!!

At nine month after second dose of dtp shot. Its easier to do it before baby's hand coordination, so they don't play with it. I have scheduled an appt. Right before my daughters nap, breastfed her and she went for her nap, woke up happy. There are special secure stud backs so you don't have to worry about loosing them. We did special metals and special stones just in case of allergies. Around her 1st bday, we did the tiny lever backs for more comfort and growth her 1st diamonds:)

Ahhh I don't know what is worse. When I first had my baby, I thought I would let her have them when she could ask for them. But I thought it was mean to give them to a baby who had no choice... but definitely rethought that when my 3 year old begged for them. I took her to a expensive jewelry store with older ladies thinking that would be safer...they explained to me with my daughter listening that they had to do one at a time the way they did it at their store so they only pierced children 5 years old and older since they figured they could reason better with the older kids and anyone younger would most likely walk out with just one done after feeling the pain from the first pierce.
My articulate little girl listened and turned to the lady and said I promise I will let you pierce them both. I wanted to cry when I saw the look on her face after the first one was done. But she sucked it up after a minute and said "Okaaay do the next one." I was an artist at an art show that weekend and she was going with me to set up. It was so cute. She won every one of those artist ladies over by parading around proudly showing off her bright pink little freshly piereced ears with the little gold studs in "BOTH" ears!
My thoughts are... a brand new baby feels the same pain but they forget... but they still feel it... ya know?

We did our daughter's at 2 months old after her shots. The shots were way more traumatic for her; she cried right at the earring piercing for about 30 seconds, but forgot about it when I immediately nursed her. Hers were done at Piercing Pagoda, and they're perfect. I had mine pierced by a dr at the hospital when I was born. They aren't even now, and I can't wear many types of earrings because of it. My mom said she noticed at the time they were off and should have let one close to redo it, but didn't. The point is that there's a chance with whoever does it......
We use the piercing earrings (she has two sets) because they lock in back and won't come off. I tried the screw backs, but we lost one after only a week of wearing it. She's been wearing the piercing earrings for 18 months with no problems. Good luck!

I'm getting my six months old done this week by a pediatric ent doctor. The cost is fifty. I had my older daughters done at four months and she never had problems. She is now three and loves wearing earrings. I asked this question a few weeks ago and got some mean responses, the worst one was from a daddy wannabe mommy.

I adopted my biological niece when she was ten days old, it wasn't planned at all. She came to me with pierced ears but I took them out. I waited until she asked for them when she was four and they had not closed up all the way, so we put them in. She was a hard core softball player and couldn't wear them so much of the time. I would think a tattoo/piercing shop would be best over the mall.

Good luck with this question. This topic can get rough on here.

We did our daughters when she was 6 months old. Her Doctor had no problem with us doing it, he just wanted us to wait until she had her second set of shots done. Since we are on a delayed schedule, that didn't happen until she was 6 months old.

She had no problems with infection, redness, tugging at them, loosing the backs, them getting caught on her clothes, nothing. She did cry for maybe 90 seconds, but after that it was over and she never seemed to be in pain again.

We did not use the after care they give you, we use H2Ocean piercing spray. My husband and I both have spent a lot of time in tattoo shops, and this is the best stuff out there.

She is almost 2.5 years old now and still no problems. When I want to change her earing I will go to the jewlery counter at wal-Mart or Claires and ask to buy a set of piercing studs. I explain that I have a toddler and need the locking backs still and I have never had anyone say they can't sell them to me. They will just shoot them out of the gun into a bag for me and off I go.

I will say that she loves her earings now, she is a big girly girl.

I didn'ty have a good experience at the pediatricians office. They were put on so tight we couldnt get them off without plyers. Ended up taking my daughter to pagodas when she was older
