I want to get curls like Taylor Swifts:
I never noticed how gorgeous she is and how different her look is.

What I'm wondering is has anyone tried a coil perm? I have thick hair that is layered from the top of my ear down to the bottom of my shoulder blade (aka alot of layers) which I've heard helps the curls on thick hair. Anyways, my hair is naturally poof and wavy. Has anyone had a perm that resulted in swifts curls? Can you tell them not to perm the roots? From her pics her roots are always kind of straightish and I was wondering if I could get that from them not perming the roots. ALSO what kind of products should I use afterwards? Like I said my hair is thick (doesn't look that way with the layers though) and can get frizzy, there's no humidity here thank goodness.

Thanks :)

Sorry no picture of the exact look I want of hers, they auto-pulled my question last time.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I'm not talking about her wave crimpy type hair-dos.. She's got a curl to it in the music awards when her roots are her natural ash brown color.

I had that once.
My hair is very thick (meaning I have LOTS of hair AND it is thick with a slight wave). But it was not layered.... my hair was all one length & shoulder length.
It was a real cute 'coil' type perm... lasted a LONG time... and I got many compliments on it.
For my perm.... some strands were coil permed, and some strands were left as is... meaning, straight and untouched by the perm. So, I had a real funky alternative look... and perm. Which is what I wanted... and which the Stylist did for me, per MY looks/style of personality.
It was real cool.
My hair, did not ever get all "poofy" or unmanageable or messy looking. It was a good, perm.

And yes, they can perm it, excluding the roots.
Just bring a photo with you, of it and what you mean.

As for products afterwards, I did NOT use hair products on my hair after the perm. I didn't have to.
I just used a gentle shampoo and a conditioner.

As I said, like you, my hair is THICK, slightly wavy, can get frizzy, and I have LOTS of hair too. My coil perm was fine.
The Stylist, used the appropriate perm solution....
In my State, there is humidity. My perm was fine. It did not get all wigged out due to humidity.

Because your hair is layered though... I don't know... how the coil perm will turn out. Ask the Stylist..... it will probably be/get real "full" looking... due to the layers in your hair....

all the best,
Susan

With the hair you describe (thick with lots of layers) I don't think you'd get the results you desire. I'd take a pic of what you want to a salon and ask these questions.

I would do some serious research about perms and what they do to your hair first. They are a BIG commitment. I am a stylist, and to be honest, most every hair style you see on celebrities are done with a flat iron or some type of curling iron(or their natural curl)!!!

this is a question for your salon. Take a photo with you and ask them they will be able to tell you if it will work with your hair.

I think you maybe want a beach wave perm to get her look.
