Is the doctor concerned about nutrition or making sure he is capable of eating and gaining? If it is nutrition, I guess I woudl look into giving him a vitamin and pushing the protein rich foods like whole milk cottage cheese, yogurt, beans, etc. If it is to see if it is appetitie and the ability to gain, then I might feed him some milkshakes!! When they were concerned my daughter might have celiac's disease, they wanted us to see if she was able to gain weight, and pushed pediasure and anything else we could get into her just to get her weight up. .

Pediasure comes in few different flavours. I had tried the Vanilla flavour which my son loved. He wouldn't drink the Banana flavoured one.
My son's pediatrician had recommended pediasure as my son was under weight and was not eating well. So I gave him pediasure(half bottle a day), I didn't give him everyday but gave him once or twice a week for 2-3 weeks. And then his doctor asked us to stop giving pediasure, because she didn;t want him to get used to it and she wanted him to eat real food.

My daughter drank it for about a year and lived on it! I used to buy vanilla and put herseys syrup in it, told her choc milk. Also, if he likes shakes put it in the blender with strawberries! good luck

I gave my daughter Carnation Instant Breakfast. It tastes better and she seemed to like the chocolate better than the other flavors. She started to gain weight, but keep trying to get your little one to eat also. I would offer food first, but if she refused to eat I gave her Carnation Breakfast. She came around in her own time and started eating again. I think this lasted several weeks, but I promise he will start eating again. Hang in there!

When my son had weight issues, we did pediasure milkshakes. I put ice cream in a blender with the pediasure. It made it taste better to my son and it helped really pack on the weight he needed.

If your pediatrician is not concerned about the weight lose, I'd find a new one! That is alot of weight for a toddler to lose. There could be some medical issues not being addressed. I'm speaking from experience as my 18month old has feeding problems and spent time in an in patient feeding program. After months of refusing to eat and only wanting to nurse, his pedi referred us to a speech therapist for feeding therapy. Unfortunately he didn't make much progress and we then went to a GI dr to rule out a medical cause. After no findings and continuing to lose weight we were referred to Our Children's House in Dallas. He did make some progress while there but we are also continuing out patient therapy every week. I understand how frustrating this can be! Please talk to your pedi before your child possibly loses more weight. Yes, you can dilute the pediasure with whole milk. Try half pediasure, half milk. Then slowly take out milk and add pediasure. Carnation instant breakfast is good, but the pediasure has more nutrition. Feel free to pm me anytime. I know how difficult it can be when your sweet baby won't eat. Good luck!
