Owners of George Foreman Grills

I own a George Foreman indoor grill and I am having a hard time keeping it clean. It is the red grill with the removable grill plates. It is supposed to be ok to wash it in the dishwasher but they always come out with white calcium deposits all over them and I can't get them clean. If anyone has any advice on this please let me know. Thanks so much.

What can I do next?

I found that if you sipe it down while it is hot. Hand wash. Then after it is cooled put some oil on a paper towel and wipe it down. This will keep it "non-stick" like.

Here's another trick I learned from a friend. While the grill is still hot, use a wet sponge loaded with dish soap to wipe down the interior plates. Close the top and let the foam do the work. Rinse it off with warm water and repeat until it's clean. You can also re-heat the grill while it's soapy if you have stubborn food stains.

Hope that helps.

It's the hard water we have...everything in your dishwasher has the deposits...you can just see them better on the grill. Use a handful of Borax powder in the bottom of the dishwasher before you start it. Also, you can run the dishwasher empty with one of those dishwasher cleaners once a month, and that will clear the interior of hard water deposits.
I use Borax in the laundry as well--it works great as a water conditioner but not as expensive as water softeners (Calgon)

While it is still hot clean it with the George Forman Grill Sponge. It is designed for the grill and helps a lot. You can find them at I think Linen and Things.

You may just need some Jet Dry in your dishwasher. Mine has never done that before...
