Omg Help - Fort Worth,TX

When my first daughter was learning to walk she fell several times and got huge goose eggs. My doctor said the forehead is a very thick, strong bone that can generally withstand some pretty terrifying falls.

It doesn't cost anything to call the advice nurse, so do that just to put your mind at ease. I also don't mind dropping in to see the doc (my co-pay is only $15) just for the peace of mind.

I would say she is probably just fine if there are no other issues.

Probably not....but just watch her behavior and if she suddnel;y wantes to fall alseep, that might indicate a concussion or something more....which is when you want to get it checked out.

Our DD is so accident-prone. My boys were not that way. In our DD's diaper bag, we carry topical Arnica and oral homeopathic Arnica. Literally, she fell on the sidwalk and her head hit before she could get her hands up. I picked her up and her head was already forming a HUGE goose egg and turning purple. I applied the Anrica and within 5 minutes, there was NO goose egg and ZERO discoloration....AND it helps with the pain as well.

I know the time has passed, and you've gotten lots of good advice, but just wanted to add the three points I was told to look for. 1. Loss of consciousness. 2. Vomiting 3. Dilation of pupils in one or both eyes. Those three things are signs of concussion. But calling your nurse just in case can't hurt either.

buy some arnica cream when you daughter has a bump or just hit herself with something or had a burn rub it and it will help her a lot.

:-( As a mother of two crazy boys that have had at least 3 golf ball sized goose eggs... she is probably OK. My Dr. told me that as long as the area swells OUT and not IN or stays flat then that is a natural reaction. I would keep an eye on her behavior and don't let her nap for a few hours.

She is more than likely OK, but call that nurses hotline for advice/warning signs and don't panic.

Call the nurses hotline at the hospital... they'll be able to do a phone triage with you and let you know whether to come in or not :)

Always call your nurse if you ever have questions like this- that is what they are there for. I will tell you what our pediatrician's nurse said when I called about this exact same thing though. If she didn't seem to lose conciousness or get dazed or have any type of seizure or anything, it shoudl be ok. If she ever falls and seems to black out even for a second, go straight to the doctor.

my daughter got lots of bruises at this age, just after learning to walk. One time her forehead landed on concrete and the corner of a metal screw--aside from the initial pain and shock, she didn't have any signs or symptoms of trauma and she was fine. Watch for stuff like dizziness, fluid discharge, eyes not in sync... the nurse triage line can tell you what signs to watch for.

Try to keep her awake long enough to observe her behavior, but if it is naptime/bedtime, that's okay too--these falls frequently happen when the child is getting tired

this is funny to me ONLY because I remember the very first goose egg my son created on his head. I was FREAKED OUT!!! I was seriously going to take him to the ER, and called my mother in law to come watch my older child. She very gently explained to me what was going on, and that I shouldn't worry. He had fallen on a toy, and started screaming. In a matter of seconds, he had a bump on his brow line almost the size of a golf ball! SO SCARY! Don't be surprised if it gets very bruised.

Oh gosh... I'm SOOO sorry. My daughter did this very same thing when she was 15 months old - first big goose egg bump. It was terrifying and I cried more than she did, BUT, I called the nurse's hotline and they said not to worry a bit. They were very nice, but clearly used to a lot of these types of calls. They told me to ice it if she'd let me - she didn't let me much, but a little bit. They said that they worry much more about injuries to the back of the head or at the temples, but not the forehead. As long as she is acting normal and she's over the pain then she should be fine. But, I'd probably call the hotline if I were you anyway - just for peace of mind! So sorry, but really, she'll be okay. My daughter's bump was nearly all the way gone after about 24 hours, she had a bad bruise for a few days and the bruising was completely gone after a week or so.
