Hi Moms,

We are thinking of going here in June and were wondering what your exerience was. We have a 4 1/2 year old son. Where did you stay/eat/do while there. Was the beach nice? Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We are very serious about our "Shore" in NJ. They are fixing it as we speak and it will be fine by Summer. I didn't know Ocean City was dry, but that's ok. We are lucking for beaches and fun things to do besides just laying around for 3 days.

My opinion?
Too crowded, too commercial.
I'd try Bethany Beach, DE for a better family experience.

I love Ocean City!

I have vacationed on the island just to the south of it (Sea Isle City) for almost my entire life (and i'm 39), and prior to that Wildwood farther south. SIC is a great, much quieter place to stay, but the things to do - other than the beach, which is perfect in SIC and OC as well - are more varied in Ocean City.

My son loves the Ocean City boardwalk. LOVES. As he should. :) During our visit there last summer he was also 4 1/2. It was a fantastic time. He was finally tall enough to go on some of the rides he wanted, plus old enough to not have us have to go on them with him. We all had a wonderful time.

The South Jersey Shore wasn't hit nearly as hard as up north b/c the eye of Sandy passed directly over SIC. That drove the higher winds and tides farther north. Our place sustained just a bit of water damage on the first floor but nothing too serious, although the part of our island that connects to OC did get heavier damage b/c it is only 1 or 2 blocks wide instead of 3 or 4 down by our house. Ocean City should also be pretty good in most places.

I can't wait to get back next summer. I moved to Kansas City almost 20 years ago and it is STILL the only place I go for vacation. It's great to introduce my son and husband to the shore, too.

Other than staying in Sea Isle City - which also has a small amusement park for kids and its own small boardwalk - and going to Ocean City, we do a dolphin watch in Cape May, the Cape May County Zoo, the beach every day(!) and ice cream every night.

I wouldn't trade my vacations or shore memories for the world.

I would be happy to share a link to some of our pics from last summer if you want to see what there is to do. Just message me.

Have a wonderful time!

Not sure how they will be doing in june due to the hurricane. Ocean city md is great too and very similar. Oc is very busy and huge 28+ street boardwalk. Bethany beach de and rehobeth are only 20 min away and very nice too. They are quieter and more family oriented so it just depends on what you like. Lots more restaurants and partying in oc.

After seeing the pictures on the news...I would only hope that all of those areas will rebuild by June. I would make sure there is still a beachfront.
Many of the areas near Milford/Fld in CT etc... are on the coast need to rebuild.

Depends upon what you are looking for....tourist or relaxation?

If you are looking for "tourist" - Ocean City - either NJ OR Maryland is the place...

If not - Rehobeth or Bethany Beach in Delaware would be nice.

Don't remember where we stayed. I know we rented a house in Rehobeth once...the beaches are typical Eastern Beaches....
