I just moved here and I am looking for an OBGYN in the Allen area and also information about Allen Presbyterian. I've read wonderful things about Plano Presbyterian and I'm hoping Allen Presbyterian is the same since it is 3 minutes from my house. If Allen Presbyterian isn't great, than I would love to find a doctor that has privileges at Plano Presbyterian. I don't mind if they are male or female, just really good at what they do and patient.

I also want to put in a good word for Dr Rajala. He delivered all three of my children and was wonderful throughout pregnancy and delivery for all of them. His staff is great as well!! I didn't deliver at Presby Allen though so I can't give you an opinion on that. Good luck to you!

I have had 2 babies at Allen Presby with Dr. Rajala and have no complaints. He runs a tight ship so his office staff are great! Allen Presby itself was nice as far as feeling like you are getting personalized care.

I would go to Craig Ranch if it weren't so far away. I went a couple of times and loved Dr. Shimmer. But when I found out I was pregnant I had to find someone closer. Also, their nurse told me to take Sudafed PE which studies have shown it can cause birth defects and it has been classified as a "Category C" (bad)...with so many other safe things she could have told me to take I was very disappointed.

I have seen gone to the Craig Ranch OBGYN for about 3 years now and love them. Everyone in the practice is wonderful, and they delivered my now 2 year old daughter at Presby Allen. I loves Presby Allen, all of the nurses were great, I could not have asked for a better experience. Good luck!

Hi V.,

I live in Allen as well and am 2 minutes from Presby Allen. It's a very small hospital but nice. My gf just had surgery there last week and she said the staff was great. I chose not to have my baby there because if there was any problems with my baby he would be have to be transfered to Presby Plano. They don't have the high level of infant care like Plano does. So that is something to consider. Thankfully, I followed my heart and decided to deliver at Presby Plano because my son ended up coming early (total shock for all of us)and was rushed to the NICU where he stayed for 3 wks. If we had delivered at Allen I am not sure he would have made it since they couldn't have given him the immediate care he needed.

I can't say enough good things about Presby Plano.

Good luck with your decision!

I moved here a few years ago and was torn about finding a new OBGYN. I decided to go with Dr. William Weise, located in Allen and he delivers at Presby Allen. I decided on him because his nurses have both been with him since he has been in practice 17+ years. That says alot when your staff sticks with you, they believe in him too. I went for my annual with him before I decided to get pregnant and he had me come into his office and talk with him for awhile. We went over all of my history and I got to ask all sorts of questions about him and how he handles things. He delivered my baby and it was great experience. He is very caring, he listens to all of my questions and he loves his job. He recently approached us to see how our new baby is doing, that says alot when they take the time to catch up with you and that they remember you. Presby Allen was a wonderful experience, the nurses were all great and I can't say enough good things about Dr. Weise. Dr. Weise ended up sick with a horrible cold the day I went into labor and even though I went to the hospital at night and delivered at 2am he was there for me. I know he was probably wishing he was at home in bed sleeping! HA! His Office number is: ###-###-####

Good luck! Hope that helps!

Presby Allen is small and personal and they practise rooming in and help you with you baby from start to discharge. Your baby stays in the room with you and not taken away from you to the nursery. Most other hospitals you have to call for you baby to come back to you.
All the obstetricians are very good there and more importantly the nurses are very compassionate and treat you like their friend and family! where else would you want to go.
Just walk up there for a tour and see what you think and talk to the staff - it is the best way to get the feel for a place.

I use Dr. Shea Joyner w/ Craig Ranch OB-Gyn... she saved my life and my son's life when I was delivering. We didn't know until I was pushing that I was having an acute abruption (where the placenta comes away f/ the uterus before the baby is born and there is massive blood loss!) She pulled MANY ticks of the trade out and I avoided a crash c-section because I was already crowning but my son inhaled LOTS of my blood and I was bleeding out! She manually removed my placenta/fundal massage and got me to stop bleeding and only by the grace of God my son was breathing and crying!!! They suctioned over 50 cc's of my blood out of him! I credit her for saving my life and my sons... she's a WONDERFUL doctor!!!

I had my first child at Plano Presby and my second at Allen Presby because my insurance changed and I had to find a new doctor. And SO thankful that I did! His name is Dr. Ralph Joseph ###-###-#### and his office is at Allen Presby. He is terrific! And his staff is awsome!
Now, as far as hospital comparisons, Plano is just a bit more "plush". More of a hotel type feeling. Probably just because they are so much bigger than Allen. But Allen is good too. They have a very similar setup, and every staff member that I encountered was great, but they just aren't as big and "foo-foo".
If I had to choose between Dr. Joseph/Allen Presby vs. Anyone/Plano Presby, I would take Dr. Joseph and his staff HANDS DOWN!
Good Luck and Welcome to the area!

I highly recommend Dr. Bruce Rajala at Presby Allen. I had my 3rd child here in Texas and started my pregnancy care with a group in Plano. The Plano group was "convinced" that there was serious concern about the health of my baby. Even after a level 3 sonogram looked normal, they still said there was concern. I refused the amnio, because I did not agree that the risk was that high. I didn't appreciate the stress those doctors put on me, so midway through my pregnancy, I had a consultation with Dr. Rajala. He listened to my whole sob story, was so compassionate and reassuring that I immediately switched to him. He monitored me closely for the last 1/2 of my pregnancy and continued to offer reassurance whenever I needed it. My "baby" is now 8 years old and he is healthy as can be. I can't say enough about how caring and compassionate Dr Rajala is. Incidentally, I later had a miscarriage (would have been child #4 - and a big surprise). Dr. Rajala was extremely kind during that tough time. He really understood the pain of that loss. Many people don't "get" the emotional pain of a miscarriage - let alone a male doctor who probably sees that kind of thing all the time. He really "got it" though.

One other thing about Dr. Rajala is that his office staff has remained pretty much the same over all these years. That says a lot to me, that he does not have high turnover in his office.

All that said, choosing a doctor is very personal - I recommend having a consultation with 2-3 doctors and then deciding who you like best. Good luck to you!

I have used Dr. Bruce Rajala since I reached puberty over 15 years ago and he also was my Dr. throughout my pregnancy. He offices at Presby Allen. He is a wonderful doctor and I absolutely love his staff. Just keep in mind don't schedule appts on Thursdays if you don't have to since that's when they schedule sonograms and the wait for rooms can get backed up!

I delivered at Presby Allen and also took all by pre-natal courses on the campus and was very pleased with how nice the hospital staff are. Even though I live in McKinney, Presby Allen is my top hospital choice for anything medically-related, including emergency room care.

I second Joey S on Dr. Ralph Joseph at Allen Presby. He delivered both of my boys and he's WONDERFUL! His nurses are VERY comforting, friendly and knowledgeable. He was the best obgyn I could have ever hoped for. APH was also very nice. First delivery I had the end room, which was larger and had more space, and my second I had a "regular" room. It was fine, just was spoiled by the space the first time. Staff was VERY accomodating, friendly, and also very comforting. Good luck with your decision, delivery .....and here's to a healthy baby!
