I had my tubes 6 weeks ago and I had a friend that told me

I got my tubes tied about 6 weeks ago after 4 children and a friend recently informed me that you can still get pg (tubal pg) she said that I still need to use protection for a while.Does anyone know if this is true.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the answers to my question. I went to the doctor and she said that i had a 4 in 1000 chance of getting pg. I never would have gotten it done if I knew that.. Thank you all anyways..

A week after I got my tubes tied I saw my doctor for a follow up. I asked her the same question and she said protection was not needed and that if I felt well enough, I could get busy (know what I mean!!!:) and its been 5 months and I haven't had a problem.

Yes it is possible for you to get pregnant after a tubal but it is rare! My tubes were tied 5 yrs ago and I am not pregnant. I wanted to make sure you heard from someone that had success with a tubal. I had a c-section and got the tubes tied at the same time so my recovery was a full 6 weeks but the doctor never told me I needed to use alternate protection. I would say if you feel better using protection for a while then do so. It certainly won't hurt anything!

Hi A.,

I don't know how common it is to get a tubal pregnancy with your tubes tied but I can tell you that my mother had two ectopic pregnancies after she had her tubes tied and they can be very dangerous. She almost bled to death internally before finding out the problem and getting it fixed. Mind you though that was about 20 years ago. I tend to believe that though it's possible that it isn't very common because if so, I can't see doctors recommending a tubal ligation if there were a huge chance you could have an ectopic pregnancy. I would do some internet research or better yet, call your gyno to get accurate information.

I do know two people who had their tubes tied and then got pregnant.I would definitely consult with your physician and until you get to talk to him/her then I would use protection just in case!

Yes it can happen. Someone I know had twins a few years after this procedure. Not exactly what she was expecting but a pleasant surprise in the end!

it depends on what was done, if you only got them tied, then yes you can still get pregnant, but if they would cut and burned then no, that is how i had mine done, and now i regret it, after 7 years.

It's rare, but it does happen. When my tubes were tied I was informed it is only guaranteed for 1 year. 7 years later I'm still okay. I think they used to have more problems then they do now. My mom had hers tied after I was born, but my little sister is 9 years younger then me.
