Hello, im B..
I went to my 2nd drs appt yesterday and my dr said she wanted to hear the heartbeat, so we tried to find it. Im 8 weeks along. She couldnt find it, so she scheduled a US, and we seen nothing. There was a sac, but no fetus. Today i went in to get my blood drawn, and sunday i go again. They're suppost to tell me if my numbers are going up on monday. Is there a chance im just gonna miscarrage. Keep in mind this would be my 2nd baby. First pregnancy i was very young and didnt see a dr till i was 6 mos preg. My daughter was fine tho. Healthy and my dr said great pregnancy. Now im thinking maybe this is how my body reacts, since i didnt see a dr till later on with my daughter maybe thats how it would've been with her.. I just wanna know if anyone has had this happen to them, or if theres a chance i could still go on with a normal pregnancy..? & yes i am pregnant. You cant have a sac if your not pregnant. && im def gonna ask about a tipped uterus. Thank you.

What can I do next?

no, I'm sorry:( There would not only be a fetus, but there would be an obvious heart beat. You are definitely not pregnant.

I would highly recommend you check out www.misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com
It's a great forum with lots of information, stories, and advice.

Your situation is common. It could be a sign of impending miscarriage, or it could be that the baby is "hiding". Did the U/S technician say anything about you having a tipped uterus? That can make it very difficult to find baby before 10 weeks. I know its hard, but you'll need to wait it out for a while. I would suggest not scheduling a D&C for a while, sometimes the baby shows up at the second U/S.
Rest assured these problems have nothing to do with you not getting early prenatal care with your first pregnancy. Sometimes these things just happen.

Hi B.,
My first pregnancy was just like yours. I was almost 8 weeks along and they did an ultrsound and found only a sac. No baby nor heartbeat, what had happened is what they call an blighted ovum pregnancy. Here is some info about a blighted ovum pregnancy. I had a misscarrage which is very common among this type of pregnancy! Below is a sight w/ an ultrasound of an oblited ovum pregnancy and info about it! However I got pregnant 3 years after my blighted ovum pregnancy and I was very scared the same thing would happen so my doctor did an internal ultrasound at 5 weeks 6 days and I heard my baby's heartbeat and it turned out to be a susessful pregnancy! I hope everything turns out good for you and I wish u luck!

http://www.pregnancy.org/article/blighted-ovum

I also wanted to add this I was diagnosied with a bichornical shaped uterues. Which is where my uterus is kinda heart shaped with like 2 horns at the top. And that could have been why my fisrt pregnancy was like yours. If the implantation occurs withen the top part where the heart shaped horns are there is not enough room for the fetus to grow and develope. I think this may have been why i misscarried witht he oblighted ovum pregnancy possibley!

It could mean a miscarriage OR it could mean that you ovulated later in the "month" and you're not as far along as you think......

But, by 8 weeks you SHOULD be able to see something...... I've had 4 miscarriages and one I miscarried at 12 1/2 weeks but the baby had died at about 6 weeks. In the ultrasound you could see a body, arms, legs, head, nose, etc. So the baby was easily seen and the development/size was about 6 weeks.......

PS> I let my body miscarriage naturally with ALL 4 miscarriages. I was pressured to do a D&C but chose to wait them out. I had no problems with any of my miscarriages. My body completely cleaned without any intervention. And I figured, this way, I would know FOR SURE that the doctors didn't make any mistakes and that I was "aborting" my baby......

I'm not sure of the answer to your question. But time will tell. You never can tell, doctors are wrong and make mistakes all the time. I will pray for you. I had 7 pregnancies. 5 children and two miscarriages. There were "red flags" with the two that I miscarried but I didn't know for sure there was a problem until I actually miscarried. Stay optomistic and positive. Good luck!!!

This has nothing to do with not seeing your dr till you were 6 months in your last preg.

I had that happen to me with my second pregnancy as well. No heartbeat and the ultrasound showed an empty sac. We discovered it at about 8 weeks and I finally miscarried at about 11 weeks. I was actually glad that I found out that I was going to miscarry before it happened and didn't find out when I started bleeding. It also helped me to know that there was never a baby there - that one never developed. However, it was still a miscarriage and so I still had to mourn the loss. I did eventually go on to have another healthy pregnancy about a year later and have a wonderful daughter. Good luck to you.

i would think you would see a sac at 8 weeks... but theres always the possibility you arent as far along as you think you are. i had a m/c last summer at 5 weeks and there was pain and bleeding so if you arent having any of that theres hope. i got pregnant again 5 months after the m/c and they didnt get a h/b at my 10wk prenatal but they did at my 14wk... they said the baby is too small to detect one until 12wks. at this point the only way to be certain is the blood work to check levels... if they check and check again after 48hrs and the levels havent gone up, then you most likely will have a m/c. its heartbreaking. i hope your pregnancy is viable. nobody understands the feeling until you experience it.
