Nine Year Old with Stomach Issues

I have a nine year old girl who complains of her stomach hurting. We have taken her off of dairy products and had tests run on her to rule out any health problems. She is perfectly healthy but will not go poop until we make her. I have tried Miralax that the doctor wanted us to use but that didn't help. She still will hold it because she is nervous or too busy playing. Has anyone else experienced this? what did you do to help your child to relax and go when they need to?
TIA

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We have kept her off of dairy except for the yogurt. She eats it everyday. We have had no issues except for last night. She ate a bagel for supper and it started hurting. So we are going to cut out the bread also. So far it has been just the dairy so hopefully we are on the right track. Thanks for all your responses.

I had this issue growing up and i still do. I have been diagnosed 3 times with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I can go days and have gone up to 3 weeks with out a bowel movement and then I may go 2 days with straight diarrhea. Unfortunately this is what they diagnose you with when they can't find anything else wrong with you. I have had a sigmoidoscopy and a barium enema, neither of which are any fun. The last time I went to a gastroenterologist he wanted to do a upper GI scope and a colonoscopy but my insurance said it would go towards deductible first which was $5000 so i didn't do it. He also told me to lay off the High Fructose Corn Syrup. I would get online and do a search for diets pertaining to IBS-C. It couldn't hurt.

Best of luck!
I know how painful this can be. =(

My son has pooping issues and frequently urinated due to blockage and pressure on the bladder. It's beyond frustrating. We use Miralax someimes, but I don't like doing that regularily. We cut out pretty much all cheese, which causes blockage, and I feed him lentil salads and oatmeal, which seems to help.

As far as the behavior, you probably still have to remind her to go more often. And as soon as she complains about her tummy hurting, put her on the toilet, give her a book or whatever and have her camp out for awhile. Tell her stories about her childhood. Keep her company so she stays on the toilet. Good luck!!!

taking her off dairy probably isn't helping things at all giving her choices of delicious yogurts to pick from for her last thing she eats at night could put her on the morning time poop at home in private schedule where it doesn't affect her busy days.If for some reason she can't have yogurt she can have a probiotic supplement at bedtime and I agree w the mom who told her son if he doesn't poop when he needs to he would have to have surgery also get her the library books that show that food is fuel and that poop is waste that must be eliminated. I think it has a picture of a volkswagen on the front I can't remember the title...when she understands the process in 9 yr old terms she will make it more of a priority instead of something that just interferes w her life a schedule that's regular and dependable will give her comfort bedtime yogurt brush your teeth breakfast have your cereal get rid of your waste then get pretty for your day etc...if she starts out having high drama about digestion issues she could live her whole life that way Good Luck and Mommy hugs

My son had this problem. I have added metamucil
( 1/2 the regular dose) to his orange juice. He has no idea it's in there, and he has been able to go more regularly. I also have told him that it isn't healthy for him to hold it in. When he asked why? I tell him that if he continues to not go when he "feels the urge" that it will get stuck in his belly. The doctor will then have to take it out. It might be scary for them to hear that, but , unfortunatly it is the truth. It cured my son.

My son has had severe constipation for the last year and a half. We have put him on a dairy and gluten free diet. He's not allergic to either but without those two components he's having regular bowel movements daily. He hasn't been constipated since last Nov. When he's bowels act up I put flaxseed oil in his juice and it helps.

Did they test her for gluten intolerance? My niece had similar problems and that was her issue.
