For the last 2 nights I have been experiencing vertigo. Sunday night I awoke in the middle of the night. Got up and when I returned to be became extremely dizzy. I was actually laying down, not getting up. Then last night when I went to bed and this morning when I turned my alarm off...The same thing happened. Once I get going, I'm okay during the day....Atleast so far....Anyone experience this and/or know what might be causing this. I'm concerned it may happen while I'm driving with my kids in the car. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Go to the doctor. I had that a year or so ago and had excess fluid in one ear that wouldn't clear up on its own.

your inner ear is probably off kilter...look up on youtube treatment for vertigo...there are a few videos on there that show you different maneuvers to turn your head to get everything back in position. i do it everytime i have it and it works for me.

I have this when I get fluid in my ears. I take the Sudafed red pills every four hours for a few days and it goes away.

Sometimes they say it's from the ear and little pieces floating or something and a doctor can give you exercises to do for it like hanging your head off the bed and then side to side, etc., to shake up those pieces. I know this isn't very medical sounding the way I'm explaining it but it has helped some people so you should check with a doctor. It can get worse.

One time I went to the doctor for dizzy spells and an unexplained fever. It turned out I had a sinus infection, even though I could breath just fine. It could also be an inner ear problem. I would probably call the doctor, because that can definately be scary when it's happening.

Hi E., I just posted something similar H. weeks ago, and the responses helped a lot to know what to do. It may be caused by different things, from ear problems, circulation problems, sinus issues, high blood pressure, or a pinched nerve..mine was.....cervical vertigo. My vertigo is mostly when I am laying down and get up, and sometimes when I change position suddenly.I have discomfort and sometimes pain in my neck. My bones' neck are deteriorated because the passing of time and also because I had an accident about 8 years ago (a kitchen cabinet-new home-fell down on my head!!!, so check your cabinets if you are buying a brand new house) So I don't have the real "cushion" in my neck and that produces dizziness and vertigo. I am going to a chiropractor who is helping me a lot. My problem is going to be there but at least it can be lessen a little bit wit Chiropractor's sessions. I found out after a lots of tests and exams, vertigo and dizziness do have a cause. It is really annoying and scary not knowing what it is.
Good luck and if your doctor do not help you find another one..I am looking for a new one right now.

It could be Meniere's disease...excess fluid in the inner ear that can cause vertigo. It can be worse when laying down or after any type of movement. Definitely get it checked out just in case!

Make sure you're staying hydrated during the day.

Maybe getting an ear or sinus infection; that messes up your equilibrium and can cause vertigo.

Sounds like you have some "floaters" in your inner ear. I had that a few years ago. Was more dizzy laying down then any thing. I went to the dr and he sent me to physical therapy for a few days. They can do some maneuvers with your head that will settle it down really quick. The only down side was after the treatment I had to sleep sitting up for that night.
