Need to Find a Female Child Psychiatrist in Carrollton, TX (North Dallas) Area

My 10 year old daughter has a phobia, it's called emetiphobia, the fear of vomiting. She has been cursed with this phobia ever since she was 5 years old. My husband and I have taken her to see psycologists and a male psychiatrist back when we discovered the problem. They help her for a while with some counseling and meds. This summer while visiting Conn. for a few weeks she was around her cousin who had the stomach flu. This traumatized her so much that her phobia has reared itself with avengence. I don't want to take her back to the psychiatrist we saw a couple years ago as I don't feel he understood the problem. I need to get her help. It's heart breaking to me and my husband that we can not help her. She gets so depressed, anxious, worried, and fearful all the time. She can't get to sleep at night unless one of us is with her. If anyone can help me find the right help for her, I would be so grateful.

What can I do next?

D.,

I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter. I have this too - although not to the extent your daughter does. I feel for her and hope you can get someone to help her...poor thing. I guess reading yours mine is "moderate" but it does make having a small child hard since they pick up these bugs all the time (and my husband works on an ambulance/fire dept. and they are around this kind of stuff all the time - makes me paranoid.) Anyways - good luck with this and i pray she finds some peace with this.

Dear D.,

I am a child psychologist in Colleyville. There are highly effective behavioral interventions for phobias. Specifically, have you heard of systematic desensitization? Google it if it's new to you. Your daughter's relapse could also be due to a phenomena called "spontaneous recovery." A complete treatment plan would focus on determining whether phobia was the only issue. For example, it is possible, and not unusual, to have a phobia and a Generalized Anxiety Disorder together. Both would need to be treated effectively. I also think that medication can be a useful part of treatement for anxiety disorders. I recommend Dr. William Goldman, a psychiatrist in Southlake. Best of luck. B.

I would recommend Dr. Harvey Davisson Davisson Clinics 12900 Preston Road Suite 1117 Dallas, TX 75230 ###-###-####

They are probably the best you'll find. They deal with all types of phobias and have psychologists the specialize in children's phobias. I would highly suggest you give them a call and ask to speak directly to Dr. Davisson.

Thanks
