Need OB-GYN in Austin Area

I just found out I am pregnant and need a good OB-GYN. This is my first baby and I will be an older mom (just turned 42). I need a good OB-GYN who does high risk pregnancies due to my age and the fact that I have Graves disease. It is well controlled and I'm taking the recommended medicine for women with it who are trying to get pregnant. These are most important - also important is that the group the doctor is in should be very good as well in case another doctor delivers instead of my regular. I need a place with NICU just in case of problems and desire in-room facilities for birthing (with emergency equipment) and my husband to stay with me. I think I would like to go to Seton NW for delivery because they have a great program and facilities - North Austin Medical Center would be ok, too - don't know but I think St. David's has good facilities - could use info on these, too. I really do not feel comfortable delivering in Georgetown or Round Rock hospital as I am very familiar with all of these due to past relatives who used them all and my aunt who is a nurse. I respect your choices and am very happy if you had great experiences at these hospitals, but I really am looking for experiences and recommendations based on my preferences, mainly. My lower-priority preferences would also be a Christian doctor and lastly, a woman doctor.

Oh yes - I live in Georgeton so a doctor nearer to me who practices at Seton NW would be a good find, too.

Thank you so much for all your help!

For high risk pregnancy, I recommend Dr. Jeffrey Youngkin - he delivers at St. David's, though, so take that into account. I had very good experiences with St. David's and Dr. Youngkin and his group - ended up delivering with different doctors and they were good as well. Had a very high risk delivery where nearly lost our first sweet baby due to an excessively long cord wrapped around his neck and our doctor was great in getting our dear little one born safely, and healthy without a C-section. Given your health concerns, I know you want a doctor with experience with the riskier pregnancies which is why I am suggesting them, despite their being down near St. David's in Austin.
God bless you!

I love all the doctors at Renaissance Women's Group. I've had both of my kids with them and I was 40 when I had my son. They deliver right across the street at North Austin Medical Center and they just opened a brand new Women's Center there and the birthing rooms are supposed to be really awesome. Good luck!

I am 41 and just had my baby 5 months ago. I see Dr. Akin. His office is actually in the St. Davids North Hospital building. His practice is very good, and when I have had to deal with any of the other doctors there, I was happy with all of them. Dr. Akin is pretty no-nonsense....but veyr practical and knowledgeable. I trusted him completely. He is part of the Austin Area OB/GYN. Good luck!

St. David's is very good (I know people who have not been happy with Seton's care, and I had two wonderful birth experiences at St. David's) and I recommend Dr. Cindy Mingea. She is very competent.
