It looks like my brother may be filing for divorce soon. He has been married for 5 years next week and they have had problems for at least 2 or so years. They have 2 children, so there will be custody issues. They have tried counseling & that doesnt seem to be working. she is not the best mother, in fact she isnt around much as it is, so he will be fighting for full custody. Can anyone refer an unexpensive attorney that would fight for for him to win custody? His wife want the kids so she doesnt have to pay child support, and she thinks she wont have a problem getting it because she seems to believe a childs place is with the mother, in her case, that is not true. My brother is pretty much a father & mother to those kids. He does all the cooking, cleaning, bathing, even braiding his daughters hair, and the mother is never around. Any referals would be wonderful.

I am an attorney but do not practice in this area, in fact, I know few lawyers who do. Sad thing is that there are A LOT of bad divorce lawyers out there. Many divorces in Maricopa County are actually done pro per (representing themselves without a lawyer). Warn your brother to please not be overly impressed by a TV or yellow pages ad. But if he can't find someone and he chooses to find one off the internet, make sure to check that the attorney is AV rated. You can check that off Martindale.com If he's going to pick a stranger, at least he'll pick a well-respected stranger with an AV rating.
