My Terrible Memory

If there is any stress in my life or anything is out of whack physically, my brain is the first to go. I do have thyroid issues and have been on meds for 17 years and I am a very busy SAHM with 5 kids etc. My memory is terrible. If I have two appointments or commitments, it's like I can't process them both. It won't click that I can't schedule two things at once or that I need to make adjustments to accomplish two things. It's like I know there are two but I just pick one. I had double commitments this morning that I knew about. I wrote them down and highlighted them and I still forgot one. I knew it was there but it's like I didn't at the same time. I do that a lot. I figured it was because of me just having my fifth baby but now that he's two (a very hard to handle two so maybe that's the problem lol) I'm wondering if there is something more I need to do. I've had weird memory problems on and off since being diagnosed with thyroid disease and I've seen the doctor because of my on and off problem. But there isn't an underlying medical problem. It's probably stress, busyness and thyroid. I was just wondering what your thoughts are on this. Do you have similar memory problems or is it just me... :) Is there anything I can try? I'm annoying myself! haha Thank you!!

What can I do next?

Sweetie...you have FIVE kids! I don't know how you do what you do and I have only two kids. You know that you have this issue. SO, get a cell phone that will allow you to program in your appointments and give you reminders.

For memory, try "Mnemonics."
It is a technique for remembering things.
Look it up online, to read how.

Women/Moms, often get "forgetful" because our brains, and just physically, we have to remember SO many things... hence our brains gets so overloaded. Too much multi-tasking and in our brains etc. I even read an article about this... per women/Moms. It is just mental overload.
And for you, you have 5 kids. With just my 2 kids, I get like that! LOL

I did get some foggy mommy brain when pregnant and with a new baby (sleep deprivation), but it got better when I could get more sleep.
When I was on a cholesterol medication my memory became horrible.
I had SO many reminder lists I could not remember them all.
I drove down a road I traveled on every day for over 10 years, and I had an episode where for 10 min I had absolutely no idea where I was.
When my refill got hung up in the mail due to a weather situation I ran out and was off it for 2 weeks.
It was amazing, my memory cleared up.
My scores on anagram games went up by %600.
And then my refill came in and my memory was shot again.
The med was also giving me some pretty bad joint pains.
I had to quit taking it and I'll never take a statin ever again.
It was a quality of life thing.

Hi Jaimee. Don't worry to much i have only two kids and feel the same way. I was thinking its sleep deprivation. I know keeping the skedule can work. go to bed and get up at same time is good for brain. i dont know if it helps, just want to let you know you not the only one.:)

I'm a SAHM also and I have 3 kids. I have underactive thyroid issues.(don't know if u have underactive or overactive thyroid) I'm having memory issues also. I feel like my mind is in different places at once. I leave to go somewhere and I keep thinking to myself "did i turned that off?" or I forgot to take this back to the store even if i wrote it down and pin it up on the wall. I think its part stress. There is times where i sit down and forget how to spelled a word, even though its a simple word.lol. I have my cell phone alarm set to take my medicine at different times a day b/c if I don't set the alarm I'll forget to take my medicine. I have to write dr's apps. on my calender or important dates so I don't forget.(it helps me out) b/c i look at my calender everyday. and thats why i started pinning EVERYTHING up next to my calender so I don't forget. ;)
