My Son's Shoes Always Stink

Hello moms,

My son's sneakers always stink. I usually end up throwing them away. He has a pair of Vans that are maybe a month old that I just threw in the washer. The only result was to make the washer smell. These shoes still look nice and have little wear. Does anyone know of any miracle solution to my dilemma. What can I use in his shoes to make them tolerable. Please help my offended nose!

Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem with my 9 year old son! Started when he was about eight. The only "cure" I seemed to find was 2 pairs of shoes must be leather uppers We even tried those breathable Sketchers..they helped a little bit. Lysol and airing out his feet and shoes.

Once he comes home I spray the inside of his shoes with lysol. Take them outside to air. Take off the socks and powder his feet with baby powder (the cornstarch one).
Next day he wears the 2nd pair and so on and so forth.
Athletes foot spray has also worked but is expensive to keep up every day.

C., I too have a very stinky eight year old boy. His feet are the most aweful thing I have had to smell since becoming a mom. I also have a 12 year old, so my nose has been through the ringer for several years now.

I still to this day can not get the stink to go away either. I have found a way to lighten the smell somewhat...

I make my son take his shoes off when he come into the house. If he is in the house for a long period of time I make him take his socks off and change socks throughout the day. I find the smell is not from the shoes, in my sons case at least. I think its from his feet sweetin' so much and never getting air. My son has the most sweetiest feet I have ever seen from such a lil guy.

How old is your son?

How often does he have a bowel movement?

Having sluggish bowels or constipation (meaning he goes poop only once a day) can lead to toxicity and eventually stinky feet. I know this because I'm a doctor and had my neighbors 8 year old son go throught the same thing. we added organic fiber to his diet (Try Renew Life brand) and restricted soda, milk and gatorade and allowed only water (and lots of it). He also took fish oil which decreases inflammation and lubricates and soothes the intestines. If you have more questions please find me on the web at www.LiveHealthWise.com

C.,

I have always had issues with stinky feet, and when I finally went to a Podiatrist for help with it he said that some people's feet just sweat more and require some preventative steps.

He told me to wash my feet while in the shower with a scrubber, and exfoliate (I know feet right?). It is very important that the feet are COMPLETELY dry before socks are put on, otherwise bacteria that causes Athelete's Foot begins and can also cause stink without itch. I was instructed to try using Corn Starch Baby Powder, and a the spray below for my shoes every other day to get rid of the odor. Also, if your son is very active like one of the other poster mentioned have him carry extra socks and put the powder on at every sock change.

I know it's a lot of steps, but my Dad has stinky feet too and if he's fairly active it will just get stinkier as time goes on.

Also, Dr. Scholl's makes some inserts that help control and eliminate odor. My Podiatrist loves their stuff and he's a pediatric one. He prescribed an anti-persperant for my friends kiddo who plays basketball and that helped. Not sure if your son is at that stage...

Good Luck.

My friend's son has this prob too. She swears by "Tsukihoshi" brand sneakers from Nordstrom. They are a little pricey ($45-$50) but are very "airy." They allow air to go thru the shoe to keep them from getting stinky. Good luck!

Hi C.:
I watch the doctors show each day, and they had a woman on asking what to do about her stinky feet. They claimed it was bacterial, and the combination of your sweat and bacteria and the material in the soles of your shoes is what causes the terrible stink. They happened to have a podiatrist there ,and told her to boil some (black tea bags) wait till its warm, and soak your feet in the black tea for 30 minutes. They said after doing this a few times,it will rid you of the bacteria that is creating the odor. Dah Dah..... Best of luck to your sons (happy feet) : )
