My son has been having pain in his right side, and along the back of his right side. At first I figured it was maybe his kidneys and told him to drink more water and some cranberry juice. He says it is hard to breathe and hurt when he moves all along his right side up to his neck. I think his neck is hurting because he is holding himself so stiff. Unfortunately he does not have a lot of friends by our house so is not very active--hoping to change that this year. Anyway, early last year I had a similar pain. I thought maybe i had a kidney stone or something. It was extremely painful. I went to the doc and she calle dit something i cannot remember. It was inflammation of the tissue under my ribs and advil helped. But my son cannot take advil. I plan to call the doc in the morning to see about getting an appointment but wondered if anyone had anything like this happen. My son has a bleeding disorder but there is no bruising or swelling so I don't think it is related. Oh, and it is high enough that I don't think it is his apendix--pain starts around the lower ribs and he will be okay for a while but hurts when he breathes really deeply or moves quickly-or laughs.
I did call the dcc but was told to call in the morning for an appt for urgent care unless it is extreme pain or the pain is lower and I can take him to the ER. He says the pain is more along the side and higher up to from about the ribs to a few inches below his armpit. The hospital by me is ridiculous in that they don't listen to the patient telling them what is wrong and make their own conclusions after running a ton of tests that really are not needed. They have good doctors there but the er is just not a place to take him, and not experienced with his disorder. It is a level 2 or 3 hospital.
Does your local hospital, or pediatrician's office, have any kind of advice line? If so, I would call them sooner rather than later. Usually it is staffed by on-call nurses, and they could at least tell you how worried you ought to be. If breathing deeply hurts, that would be a concern to me.
The doctors will figure it out. I was some what of a tomboy as a kid and we'd play smear the piggy. I was smallest and often was the piggy. One of the tackles cracked three ribs. Didn't find that out for weeks. But the pain was very similar to what your son has described.
Sounds like appendix to me. I'd get him in to be looked at immediately. I would demand an ultrasound also. I had stones in mine, so did my sister, so did my father. I was told by my surgeon that I was the first case he'd ever seen like that. I had totally normal bloodwork, normal temp, everything was normal except for my pain and where it was located.
if it's lower on his right side it could be his apendix. The pain will continue to increase and won't subside. I'm not sure how long this has been going on but if it continues for much longer I'd take him to an Instacare or ER tonight. Have him show you where it's hurting and you can google the symptoms. i think you need to consult a doctor if your son has a bleeding disorder. you just can't assume.. there are no bruising or swelling but we can't really tell because the pain might not be muscular pain only it could be from inside meaning internal organs... i suggest that you consult a doctor and let him have a complete assessment.
