My daughter was born with this rare birth defect 15 years ago. She will be 16 in 8 days and is doing great. If you met her you would never know anything was different. She has no restrictions and does everything other 15 year olds do. I'm sure your curious as to what chlaocalexstrophy is...to briefly explain......she was born with a hole in her stomach and some of her organs were on the outside. She is incontinent and has an illeostomy in which prob. will never be reversed. She has an option to not be incontinent which involves major surgery but is her choice as long as things are going ok medical wise and she chooses not to as of yet. She had 7 surgerys by the time she was 2 and more since. I know she isn't scared of having surgery---I think she is nervous cause if she has the surgery she would have to catheterize(sp) herself in order to empty her bladder. She actually wears huggies supreme size 6 right now for her incontinence. She has always been small so this hasn't been a problem until recently. They are so tight on her they are leaving marks and pushing her lower part of her back up to where it looks like they are deforming her.(she has to wear them 24-7,so she doesnt get a break from them) She has worn them for so many years that she doesn't want to use anything else because she is comfortable with them(she grew up with them and knows nothing different) but I told her she has no option. So I was wondering if anyone has a similiar situation with an older child and could give me some suggestions for an altenate option to keep dry in which the child also feels comfortable with.I am also waiting to hear from her urologist this week with some suggestions from what other kids he takes care of uses. I'm sure everyone's comfort is different and my main concern is for her to feel just as comfortable as she does now. and I think she will be surprised when she gets use to something that isnt so tight on her.All suggestions would be appreciated.

Huggies Goodnights come in S-M that are made for 38-60lbs and a L-XL for 65-125lbs. The come in girls or boys designs and are terrific! You can find them pretty much anywhere diapers are sold, Target, Walmart, Grocery stores, etc.

Have you tried using depends, or another brand that might be used for adult incontenance(sp)? I know they would be much bigger, and they might feel just as comfortable on her. I would think it would be worth a try.

I have seen advertisements for those underpants(overnights for older kids who wet the bed...they even look more like underwear, but I have no expirence with them). My mother inlaw wears Depends and they have many different sizes and absorbancies...they also make poise pads witch insert into your underwear...these can all be found at any pharmacy/walmart/target etc...I also know they make inserts for diapers(to make them last longer and not leak overnight) although i don't know if they would work by themselves because they're meant to go inside a diaper. Hopefully someone out there can be more helpful. Goodluck!!

I don't know if this was the solution you were asking for, but I do know that they sell adults depends, which in small sizes mught work for her. They are the same thing as pullups without the designs.

I have a special needs daughter. She is 12 now, but with a medium built. We use Tranquility pull-up diapers. We buy them on-line and they ship quickly. Give them a try, http://www.northshorecare.com/pullonsyouth1.html

This company has a large selection of incontinence products. Good luck!

Have you looked into Adult diapers/incontinence pads/disposable underwear? I think one brand is Depends. I'm sure there are even slim options that look more like sanitary napkins than diapers or are not much bigger than regular underwear and would fit her 16 year old body better than the huggies.

Another possible option is cloth diapers. I know of some WHAMs that design stay-dry and feel-dry versions for adults and older children with continence issues.

Hi C.,
Depending on her size, adult incontinence products may be what you need. There are also diapers made for older kids, teens, etc with medical issues, but you won't find them by going into Walmart or Shoprite and looking in the diaper aisle. You can ask the pharmacist in a drugstore if they carry these, or you can likely find a way to order them online.
Good luck!

i found a product on Diapers.com that is called Overnights or soemthing like that. i can't remember the actual name but it is much larger than Huggies size 6. it goes up to 66 pounds or soemthing like that and is made out of a stretch material that almost feels like cotton. your daughter would probably be way more comfortable in them. if you go to diapers.com and look at the overnight diapers or pull ups you will find it. good luck!

Dear C., I never heard of this condition by name but once you described it then I knew about it. I am so glad your daughter is so well adjusted and I'm sure you have something to do with that. I wonder if the things they sell for adults that are like underpants with depends would work for her? It is not good for her to be uncomfortable 24/7. I wish you the best and hope you get some other suggestions. Yours truly, Grandma Mary
