So my daughter seems to get too many nose bleeds. i mean it's not like evryday. 3-4 times a month and usually when she's sleeping. i used to think it's cause she was picking her nose but i just saw it happen in front of me while she was sleeping. from both nostrils. whay does this happen?

What can I do next?

My son was about the same age when that would happen to him also (while sleeping too). The dr said it was the dryness of everything (air/membranes/time of year, etc). When he was about 6 he seemed to have developed allergies and was then put on a nose spray. She'll outgrow it. I know it's scary in the mean time, but she'll be ok :)

The air she's exposed to may be too dry and or hot. I have had nose bleeds for as long as I can remember, now my kids too. Try adding a cool mist to her room while she sleeps, it should add moisture to dry air. If she allows you to, you can use saline spray into her nostril (at least it was recommended for my children, no cooperation there) For me, I put a thin layer of vaseline in my nostril and that takes care of my nosebleeds. Good luck.

I agree with everyone that says to get a humidifier. It made a huge difference for us.

Decongestants always make my nose bleed (which is why I don't take them).

But I'd take her to the doctor if that isn't the case or she doesn't have allergies. It could be something more serious.

Does she have allergies? My son has severe seasonal allergies and at the bad part of the season he would have bad bleeds all the time. The only thing that made it stop was a ice pack. Run it by her doc just to make sure but they are very common although scary sometimes!

usually in summer when exposed to AC off and on all day the inside of their noses get dry and tend to bleed easily. You can always ask the pediatrician to look up there to see what he/she can see and you'll have your answer. It's not uncommon tho.

She could have allergies, but it doesn't mean she has to be sneezing and snotty all the time. Alot of kids show allergies with nose bleeds. Ask your doc if this could be the case and try some over the counter meds.

If you are in a dry climate this could happen, or higher altitude. I know of a quick way though to stop a bloody nose, so if you teach it to her it will help.

When getting a bloody nose determine which nostril it is, lets say if its on the left side- then you take your opposite heel (so right) and thump it on the floor. Or someone could vigorously pound it. If its the right side bleeding, do your left heel. When I get a bloody nose I hit both heels just to be safe and it instantly stops. I know its crazy, but its some Chinese accupressure technique. If she can learn this it will help stop it quickly...

As far as it happening when she is sleeping, that is really strange. I would definitely see a doctor about it. In the meantime try putting on a humidifier in her room at night and see if that helps.

Use a humidifier in her room... it might be just too dry for her wee nose.
My daughter had her nose cauterized. It's not pleasant, but it works.

my son has been getting nose bleeds for about 2 yrs since he was 3. he gets them about 3-4 times a week on average. the dr said it's either dry membranes or allergies. i'm gonig to have him tested for allergies, because i also noticed he sneezes in the morning when he wakes up. the dr. told me to get a cool mist humidifier.

My son was getting lots of nosebleeds. the Dr recommended having it cauterized, which seemed extreme. I started swabbing his nostrils with vaseline every evening. No more nose bleeds. when we were on vacation I forgot and he had a nosebleed.
