We are headed to Nashville soon for my daughter's dance finals and have never been there- we normally head to a beach for vacation. What are some of the must-do activities in Nashville? We are on a tight budget, so nothing that will be too expensive, and free is even better.
So what are some of your favorite things to do/places to visit?
If you go on Tripadvisor you will get literally hundreds of reviews of everything from food to entertainment and you can specifically search "good for families."
My mom is from there and she lives an hour from there. Their are some fabulous places! My favorite is the Parthenon replica. It's wonderful and has a beautiful pond near where you can feed ducks and just relax. Grand Ole Opry Hotel is always fun to visit. Their are tons of museums, shops, and their is The Nashville Zoo. Elliston Soda Shop Diner /Blue bird Cafe is in Downtown Nashville, and a real fun place to eat with kids.
I'm going in August, and one of my stops will be at the Johnny Cash Museum.
Their is too much to list, but It's one of my nearest and dearest places of all time.
We went last year and the Parthenon is amazing, my daughter likes learning about the Greek Gods so we went specifically see it. We also went to the zoo and that was fun.
There is much more to do and see there, it just depends on what you like.

i loved a lightning-fast visit to nashville a few years ago. we bar-hopped on a sunny afternoon through the honky-tonk district (without drinking, and no one got pissy with us!) and checked out some beautiful parks.
but to my sorrow the parthenon was closed. seeing Athena was supposed to be the high point of my visit, but it didn't even occur to me that they'd close Her off from me. i had to leave an offering and handwritten prayer at the firmly-shut doors to Her temple.

I don't know how much this cost, but I took a tour to the old Grand Ole Opry. They told us the history and walked us around. It was fun. Then we went to a performance at the new Grand Ole Opry (which isn't so new anymore.) Fun to see Minnie Pearl standing up there with her hat and the price tag hanging down.
That was a long time ago, before Minnie passed away and before country music moved to Branson. I don't really like country music, but there's a lot to be said for learning about it, and that's certainly what Nashville has been so famous for.
Must visit Johnny cash museum, I think it was free, walk around the music studios, also free, and have breakfast at the pancake place on 21st, always a line up but well worth it.
We went to Nashville for the day a few months ago. We had lunch on a picnic table outside the Parthenon replica and then spent a few hours at the Adventure Science Center. It was a hit! We drove by the Grand 'Ole Oprey, too.
Stop at Brown's Diner to eat -- yes, it is a dive, but very good food. (if you like country music - you might by chance "share" a meal.)
There are several historical sites in the area - with folks in period dress to tell the stories - if you are into that sort of thing.
