So we had a trip planned to TN, where we were going to visit Nashville for a few days before heading East to Pigeon Forge/Smoky Mountains. With the flooding in Nashville, we are going to avoid that area :( and are now looking for somewhere to go on the way down. We are leaving from Cleveland and it looks like we will be traveling through Cincinnatti, Lexington, KY, etc. Anyone have suggestions for good family activities/vacation spots (kids are 5 and 3) along that route?

What can I do next?

I live in Middle TN and even though many of our best attractions are closed, there is still many things you can do. Especially with the kiddos. =0) You may have already fully decided to avoid us, but just in case, I'll name a few things that are safe and up and running. You have the Nashville Zoo, the Adventure Science Center (super duper fun museum for all ages!!!!), Nashville Parthenon and Centennial Park, Stones River National Battlefield, Ryman Auditorium, Nashville Shores (opens May 22nd), and many great restaurants. It's sad that Opry Mills mall, the Opryland Hotel and the Grand Old Opry are all down, but there is still enough to keep your family having fun for a couple days. =0)

Also, this website is updated daily (scroll down to the "Downtown Businesses: list of openings and temporary closures" section)

I just hope you have a wonderful time.
I have 99% of my family in Tennessee. It's beautiful.
Your kids might be too young to really appreciate some of the places, but there are so many historical sites.
I would look online for tourism in Tennessee and see what you find.
Did you know that Bristol is the birthplace of country music?
Google it.

I hope you have a great time and wish I could go with you!

Unless you had your heart set on Opryland and Music Row, I hope you will look into some of the places Mel mentioned. More than ever, Nashville needs to get back to business as usual. Of course, if the downtown area was your destination, that is understandable.

Hope you have a great trip!

If your going to be going through Cincinnatti I would suggest the Newport Aquarium! It is technically in Newport Aquarium which is right on the river in Cincinnatti & Newport, KY.
