We are going on vacation in a week, and wondering if anyone could recommend an affordable, child-friendly motel/hotel in the North Conway/White Mountain area. Preferably with a hotel. We don't want anything fance - just clean and child friendly. We plan to try to just "wing it" and not make any reservations, if possible.

What can I do next?

Hi L.,
My husband, baby girl, and I have stayed at the Holiday Inn. It's right on route 16. It has an indoor pool, and Continental breakfast. Also we have stayed at The Green Granite, also on route 16. It was clean and friendly. Affordable too. I would recommend one of these two places. And they are mintues to all the fun attractions. I'm not sure about winging it, you may want to make a reservation. Althought there are plenty of hotels around you'd find something. Have a fun vacation.

Hi L.,

I just got home from North Conway about 2 hours ago. We took the kids to Story Land and A Day Out With Thomas this weekend. I believe Thomas will be there next weekend too if anyone is a Thomas fan. We stayed at the Green Granite Inn. We stayed there 2 years ago too. It's a decent place. They have a complimentary continental breakfast, an outdoor pool and small playground. It's right near the outlets too. A little dated but clean. Right on route 16 in the same area near the outlets, there's also a Hampton Inn and Suites and a Comfort Inn (adjacent to a mini golf course that's really good). There's a bunch of other places too - motels and resorts as well. We had dinner at the Muddy Moose Restaurant (on route 16). I would say to get there by 5:30 if you don't want to wait forever for a table. The food is great and it's always packed. Either that or see if they have call ahead seating. I hope you have fun. If you want a scenic route, cross the Kancamangus Highway. It's beautiful. You can stop at different spots and get out and swim in the river - it's pretty low right now. People looked liked they were having fun jumping off of the rocks and stuff. Enjoy!!

I recommend The Comfort Inn (and I know 2 other families who have stayed there and recommended it to me). It is right on the main strip on 16 in North Conway and is about 10 minutes away from storyland. There is mini-golf on the grounds, an indoor swimming pool, and very decent continental breakfast. There were lots of kids there of all ages.

We used this site to help us search: http://www.mtwashingtonvalley.org/. This one also had listings: http://www.northconwaynh.com/hotels.html. There are lots of places available depending on what ammenitites you are looking for. We wanted a separate bedroom for our daughter and a kitchenette and found ski condos to be more affordable than hotels. If you are not going to make reservations, you might want to make a few phone calls ahead of time to make sure there is availablitiy.
Have fun,
J.

Hi,

My husband and I and our kids 5, 7, and 9 stayed at the Beacon Resort which is down the street from the Indian Head Resort which is also a great place to stay. They have kid activities, pools, meal plans and they are close to some neat attractions. Also, they are very reasonably priced. The best time to go is Mid-week. It is not as crowded.

Good luck
Have a nice vacation

Hi L.,

I not sure how you'd do "winging" it, but we have found the Indian Head Resort to be one of the most child friendly resorts in the white mountain region. The Indian Head is not exactly inexpensive, but if you get one of the meal plans the price becomes quite affordable and the food is really very good. Most importantly, as I said they are very child friendly.

We have also stayed at the Red Jacket Inn, Mountain view right in North Conway which was also quite child friendly and moderately priced. Good Luck
