More Drama in Boston - Is This on the News Elsewhere? It's like Watching a Movie

Wow - so I woke up to my phone ringing with my company's emergecy notification number and a recording telling me that my office (which is outside of the city) is open but that if I live in an "affected area" to contact my manager about alternative work arrangements.

So I turned on the news and there is a three-city manhunt for the the surviving bombing suspect, with taxi and public transporation suspended. Overnight one suspect was killed, a police officer is dead, and they are reporting that the remaining suspect has guns and bombs. Neighborhhoods have been evacuated, colleges have shut down (schools are closed because it's vacation week anyway), and residents in three cities (Boston, Cambridge and Watertown) have been told to stay indoors.

This is just crazy - I hope they find the other kid (and he is a kid - 19?) soon. I don't think the second suspect will be captured alive.

So for the question...is this on the news outside of here? Have you ever had a situation like this locally?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone - thinking of West, Texas as well and know that so many of you are in Texas. Seems like the death toll keeps climbing there. I sincerely hope that some of the missing turn up to be injured and not dead.

In an odd twist, the suspect here who is dead (the older of the two brothers) boxed at a gym my daugther trains at. She didn't recognize him, thankfully.

We have had weird situations locally. Not to that extent, exactly, though. Someone took over the Discovery Communications building, for example. Or like B mentioned, the snipers who were initially thought to be in a white van.

DH told me this AM that the suspects are from Chechnya. Does anyone remember the female bombers from about 10 or so years back? I do, because I was profiled at the airport and had my baggage searched (which I was fine with because every other woman that fit that description was searched, too). I just read that the brothers came to the US about 10 years ago, which would be interesting timing re: women bombers.

I'm going to wait for things to settle down, as there's just too much noise right now. It's just a sad thing all around. Stay safe!

Here it's on the news nonstop. Much more attention to the Boston situation than to West, TX, in the NY media area. This one channel kept breathlessly reporting that train service from NY to Boston was shut down, and here we are live with an Expert on Something or Other to talk about what would happen if this happened in the NY area.

It's like (some) New Yorkers can't stand not to be the center of attention even for a minute. Annoying.

Lighting a candle for you and all Bostonians,

Mira

It's on the news here, too, but to a lesser extent.

West, Texas (not west Texas, the region, but West, Texas the village) is next door. It's a small town, but most everyone I know has spent time there at some point or another, and we have family close enough to have felt the blast. So most of our news footage is that.

I think yours is scarier, though. People like this always scare me way more than the possibilty (or actuality) of accidents. Y'all stay safe. Prayers are coming your way.

I am not watching the news...we barely turn cable t.v. on. The news and shoot em' up action movies are becoming one and the same in my book.

It is all over the internet news sources...that is where I turn for keeping in the know.

I hope the murderer is caught alive rather than become another martyr for his deranged "cause". We have enough of these crazy martyrs that give fuel to idolizing replacements. It would be nice to get some answers and have the lunatic rot in a cell alone for the rest of his life. Give him some good thinking time away from his brother.

No, we have never had a situation like this that I can think of......yet.

Be safe...be cautious....and join your prayers with others around the world for peace and love to fill our homes, halls of Congress , communities and nations around world.

Not since I was a kid have I been in a local manhunt situation (david tate in MO in the mid 80s- the kids were not allowed outside more because of parents worry, not law enforcement mandate and we had helicopters patrolling).
Yes, this hit twitter last night and has not stopped in coverage since the mainstream media picked it up this morning.

It is. My BF texted me that info this morning. Said they are from Chechnya. All of Boston, Cambridge and Watertown on lock down.

One of the Conservative congressmen is saying that it is actually a fight between two of our govt factions trying to gain control by scaring the US citizens into following their "lead" and letting the govt handle our lives so we can be 'safe'.

Well, I am in the Concord, NH area, about an hour from Boston, and we were following it on the news all day Friday. It is very scary, and we are praying for the victims of the bombing and their families, as well as everyone in the Boston area. We were very thankful to hear last night that they found the younger one. Praying for you and your family in Boston!

It's just tragic, no matter how you look at it, I hope he's brought in alive cause some answers would be nice...but, I'm not sure he will be. My hope is that there is no more death, on any side.
