Mirena Ladies - Can Hubby Feel It?

I'm having a hard time understanding this. How is it that we are supposed to check for the strings on a monthly basis, but hubby won't feel the strings during sex? That just isn't making sense to me.

If you have Mirena, did your dr cut the strings short enough the first time? Has hubby ever felt the strings?

I'm getting the Mirena tomorrow, and am kind of freaking out about it!! I don't know why!

What can I do next?

haha, I remember freaking out the night before too. Relax, you are going to love it!

I have had mine for about a year. I had heard from some of my friends that their husbands say they can feel the strings. I asked my husband and he said no. My doc. said those guys just want to sound "big." (Get it? ;) )

Anyways, I think it was 6 wks. after I had mine put in I went back for my follow up apt. and she said everything looked great. I never check the strings. I think she did cut the strings short the first time...

I remember the first couple days, I kept thinking...this is weird, and didn't know if I would get past it. Now, I never think about it, get my period occassionally, but very light...and don't have to remember to take birth control...

I have also heard that the day you take it out, you are fertile immediately. Great! In fact, my friend said she got pregnant within a week.

They are good for 5 years...another plus. I will have mine for 2 more years, before we start trying for a little brother or sister! :)

Do keep in mind you might not feel well tomo after having it put in. I was very crampy :( but it was all better the next day!

I had Mirena for about a year and a half before I got it removed a few years ago and my husband actually felt it, "stabbed" by it as he would say. It wasn't every time, but when it did happen, he would literally jump, yell in pain and that would be it for that activity for a few days. I had a lot of problems when I had Mirena. Loss of sex drive, fatigue, ovarian cysts, severe abdominal cramps, etc. But everyone is different and reacts to things differently, so what happened to me may not be typical for someone else. Ask your doctor any questions and state any concerns before the IUD is ready to go in. Cover your bases and if you have second thoughts or you're still freaked out, trust your better judgement.

My guy hasn't felt it yet. I often times find it hard to find sometimes. I think it just depends on the person.Like usual.

I got my strings cut SUPER short.. and I never checked monthly (oops) he could feel it sometimes but I asked for them to be cut short for that reason.. It was no problem getting it removed, did it in like 2 seconds. The OB saw me like a month after insertion and once she saw it was still in the right spot she didn't even tell me i needed to check monthly. From what I saw if it moves out of the uterus you'll have symptoms pretty quick? Just my experience. Oh, and the strings were NOT a comfortable feeling for my hubby, think of two wire like strings poking you down there.. yikes.

I had one 2 1/2 years ago and my hubby felt it. I went in to have the string cut and it was already as short as they could cut it. He didn't feel it all the time, but for about a month he felt it every time. I would tell them to leave the string a little longer. My dr said it would wrap up or something...I'm getting another one on Thursday. Had the first one removed to get pregnant. Good luck! :)
