Hi Moms,

I had Mirena insterted yesterday afternoon. I am still having some cramping which goes away if I take 2 advil. Is this normal? I also had some bleeding and now a little spotting. Also she said to have sex...did she say once or at least once?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I should have been clearer about the sex part. She said to have sex sometime in the next month before my nex appt to make sure the strings are ok. I didn't mean have sex right away. Sorry for the confusion!

I use Paragard, which is different in its lack of hormone. However, the cramping lasted about a day and was minor. I was told spotting was normal and that cramping could last longer but could be alleviated with the same medicine you might use for menstrual cramps. I wonder if there is a different depending on how soon after birth it's inserted (mine was about 8 weeks after), but I imagine it could be different if that's not a factor.

Either way, I hope you get relief soon!

I had mine for two in a half years...the cramping last just a bought a week but slowly lessened through the days. It is very normal to feel this way, but as far as the sex goes mine told me NOT to have sex for the first two weeks to give the Mirena time to work. Just like other BC, it needs time to absorb into your body. And don't be alarmed if you don't see a period I didn't have one for the full 2 1/2 years I had mine.it was heavenly.

Ouch! By far the Mirena was the most painful (well my level was worst), but nonetheless PAINFUL!! I was in tears while it was inserted. My cramping lasted about a week as well and like singlemomof1 said my doc said NOT TO HAVE sex. Can't imagine how painful it would have felt of I would have done the nasty!! Ouch. And yes my period also has vanished completely (4years and counting).

Three to five days or so is normal. If it's debilitating pain call your OB. The spotting is normal too.

I did read up on Mirena before insertion-but was shocked that it hurt afterwards. My cramps only lasted about 48hours. My periods lightened up at fist then went awat-which was wonderful as I normally have extremely painful period cramps.
My doctor did not recommend sex. He just said that if my partner felt anything to come back for an adjustment. Maybe that will help get rid of your cramps though!

I had mine put in a few weeks ago... Cramping was tapered almost completely off by day 4. Also once the cramping and minor discharge was gone you can continue your sex life. And this can continue once started. Most times, if a doc is used to putting them in... The string will not be felt.

Took a few days, or even a week maybe...but it did go away completely. I remember it was very uncomfortable that first day or two! I don't remember them saying anything about sex, other than they said it was fine to, but not that we had to lol.

For me I had cramps the first 24hrs, but was told if they last longer than 48 to call again. I had no issues after 24. My girlfriend had to have hers removed after two weeks of intense pain. I will be honest it is not for everyone.
