Microchip in Pet and Expensive Fee to Update Address???

Hi, I called AVID to update our address on my dog's microchip. They asked for a one time $36.50 fee. Really? To change a simple address? Has anyone else been asked to pay this much? I distinctly remember when the vet installed the chip during the spaying surgery, that the fee was for life and all inclusive. But I can't find the paperwork to prove this conversation. I constantly feel that we as consumers are being taken advantage and nickeled and dimed at every turn. I'm probabably just PMSing and also worked on our taxes this weekend....ugh.

I should clarify...we moved to Canada....

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So, I can't locate the vet numbers or clinic that did the spaying....from moving again. My records are incomplete.

I complained to the company and here is there response....
The fee of $25.24 is for the registration of all non Avid Canada microchips.
The $9.52 is for the collar tag that identifies your pet will be registered with us.
These prices do not include the GST and or shipping charges.
The fee applies as the microchip in question is coming from the United States. Avid USA is a separate company and they have their own database.
We are a different company and have our own database as well.
If you were to register this microchip # with any other microchip company there would be a fee involved as it is not a simple change of address.
We do not charge for a change of address once a pet is registered.

Hmmm. I have my cat chipped through Petlink and I can go online and update my information at any time, no charge.

I would talk with your vet, as suggested.

We have a chip in our dog but ours is with Home Again. We changed our address for free.

Could you call your vet and ask if they still have the information? I am with you, in that it is A LOT of money to update an address! If they have that info, then I would definitely put up a fight with the microchip company.

We haven't done it, but talked to our vet about it recently and thought it was a one time fee. That sounds quite pricey for changing an address.

When I changed addresses with AVID chip it was 5 per pet per address. It may cost more because of the international move.

Home again is a company you may be able to register your chips with and they do not charge fees for change of address if you do it on line.

When I changed our address on my dogs chip there was a fee. I can't remember it costing that much. I thought they charged me like $10. Maybe they made some changes.
