I'm thinking that my husband and I would benefit from a marriage retreat/intensive therapy type situation. Anyone have any recommendations? Given today's weather, something in warmer climates would even be great!! I've found a few programs in VT, CO, UT and MO. But I have no idea if any of them are any good.

Hi S.,
I can HIGHLY recommend the Family Life marriage retreats. They are all over the country. Their marriage website is www.familylife.com/marriage.asp and there is a link in the upper right corner for the "Weekend to Remember" conference schedule. You won't be disappointed...these are phenomenal.

I've heard that the PAIRS program is excellent.

I have a book "Passage to Intimacy" by the developer of this program and it is quite good. They have classes everywhere - just poke around their website and you can find a local one. -or one in a warm place :)

John Gottman of the Gottman Institute in Seattle runs an outstanding weekend retreat. His intervention is research-based and because he has a good sense of humor, the sessions are very enjoyable. Good luck!

S.,

There is this website called Marriage Encounter Worldwide, http://www.wwme.org. They offer retreats for married couples. Also, Retrouvaille, http://www.retrouvaille.org, is a weekend for couples with troubled marriages. I applaud you for wanting to make your marriage work. Too many people give up too easily. GL!

Hi. I too would recommend the Family Life seminars. When my husband and I had gotten engaged, our minister told us to go (they have special parts just for engaged) and I thought it was a ridiculous waste of our money. Well, my husband dragged me there - and I really enjoyed it. We went back two years later before our first child was born and I would love to go back again, but now we have 3 kids... I always recommend these seminars to people in our church whenever the info comes around. Hope that helped!
