Looking for a Safe & Effective Probiotic for Preschooler

Does anyone know of a probiotic that is safe to give to a 4 yr old? It needs to be in a form he can take, since the kind I take must be swallowed whole, I don't think he could handle this. Do they make probiotics just for kids? If so, where can I find them? We do the yogurt thing and that helps, but some days he gets tired of yogurt and doesn't want it, and we seem to be having problems on those days. Thanks for any help.

What can I do next?

Hi there- if you go to Nugget or Whole Foods or a natural foods store you can find kids probiotics. It used to be that the most potent probiotics are refrigerated but that's no longer the case, they have been able to somehow make them stable without refrigeration, so even if they aren't refrigerated they can be as potent or more potent. Some of the good brands escape me right now, I think Nordic Naturals might have one, if you can get a store employee's attention they are usually a good source of info on good brands and ones kids like! Happy probiotics to you, that's also a great way to fend off the seasonal bugs coming our way.

Hi T.,

Try Udo's Choice Infant's Probiotic. It has 7 infant and toddler-specific strains. I found it at my local natural foods store, but you may be able to find it at the grocery store. I used it on my daughter because she used to spit up so much when she was younger. It definitely helped. Good luck!

I got a probiotic for my 2 year old from the pharmacist. It's not prescription but they keep it behind the counter. It's refrigerated and is powder form so you simply sprinkle it on food or in drink. Easy enough. It's a little pricey though. I know I've seen them in the aisle but I can't remember what section and what it was called.

Go to Elliotts health food store. They have several different types for children. I give my two year old son Yum Yum Dophlis Chewable grape flavor. He thinks it's candy.

Hi T.,
I buy a chewable probiotic from Whole Foods. They taste great and have really helped my daughter. Just make sure whatever brand you buy is refrigerated for the most active probiotics.
Sincerely,
L.
