Forget free consults. Even divorce is a marital expense. Find yourself a highly recommended attorney and use a joint credit card or bank account to pay for it. THe consult fee will generally go towards the retainer.
It is worth it. YOU are worth it.

Don't know your area but I have never heard of a good attorney that will give you a free consult. That anyone would, would indicate to me they are not a good attorney, ya know?
I agree with Theresa and Jo. Don't look for a cheap attorney, find yourself an excellent attorney who will advocate for you. The divorce process is the pits. You'll need all the help you can get. Take good care of yourself, you will be glad you did.
I just went through a divorce and my attorneys did a good job, but if I had the opportunity to chose again, I would go with Laura Roach. She was actually the mediator that we used after a year of court battles with my husband and she had the thing settled in 8 hours. I never thought we would have been able to settle in mediation. I think she also practices as a divorce attorney. I'm 100% sure that she isn't cheap though. I do think she would do a great job, especially if your husband is kind of a jerk. She doesn't like jerks.

I agree with most of the other Moms! If you want someone to take care of you properly you need a good attorney, and good attorneys don't give free divorce consultations.
