Lilly Padz and Belly Bands

Hi- I am getting ready to have our second baby. Was wondering about the reusable nursing pads, I think called Lilly padz. They are some kind of silicone that suctions to your nipples to keep you from leeking. Does anyone have any experience with these? Do they actually work? I went through a million disposable pads and it seems like a good idea if they work and don't cause problems.

I am also wondering about the belly bands they have for after labor. It helps pull in your stomach to help contract it quicker. Kind of like a gurdle I guess. I had a friend that used an ace bandage and said it really helped. This would be an easier version. Wondering if these actually help and if anyone else has tried them. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I have never used the belly bands, but I loved the Lily padz! I would have to dump them and clean them occasionally if I didn't put it on right. They are about $24.00 each and I bought two sets. Very much worth it in my opinion and I'll have them for baby no 2.

Belly Bands sound great. If you end up with a c-section, it may be too painful to wear, but let's hope that doesn't happen!

Don't know anything about belly bands either - sounds uncomfortable if you ask me! But Lilly Padz are awesome. They really work. Just be sure to keep them clean and dry. And make sure your nipple is clean and dry before applying them...if you trap moisture in there you could get a yeast infection. So if everything is clean and dry, you place them up to your nipple then flatten down the rest of the pad around it.

I never had luck with the pads, ultimately with all three of my kids I used padded bras and gave up on the nursing bras. I have never leaked through a padded bra - EVER - and I have 3 1/2 years of nursing under my belt.

As far as the belly bands. Use one while you are pregnant they help your belly hold up that baby and keep the back pain down. If you want to use a belly bank or even a girdle after that will help as well. The best way to keep your figure though is to start out healthy and stay healthy during the entire pregnancy, even work out if you can. Hard I know but worth it.

Good luck and congrats!

I loved my Lilly Padz too. Like other moms have said, make sure to keep them clean and dry. If you have a huge let down then they'll leak. I found that one of my biggest annoyances with pregnancy and nursing was that my nipples were always huge and really stuck out. I used Lilly Padz to keep them from being obvious - even when I wasn't nursing. I really like that they're not bulky.

The Lily padz were good for going out, more conspicuous. I did not like them at night when my kids slept through the night. They would just leak. I also found that when I was nursing on one side and the other side let down, if it let down a lot, the milk would build up in the pad, so when I went to nurse the other side, I had to clean that side up a bit. I would go with the reusable cloth ones and then at night, if you tend to leak a lot at night, just disposable.

I used the Lily Padz with my third and loved them! Target had an off brand that was great, and a lot cheaper. I have no experience with the other. Congratulations!

I loved Lily Pads for when I wanted to wear something nice, go swimming, etc. I didn't wear them all the time because I found that the little bit of milk that leaked and got trapped in them started to smell, and I was worried about that area staying wet and getting infected.

I used washable pads the rest of the time, and they were great. I bought them at Target.

Love them! I used disposables for the 3-4 weeks until my letdown got a little more regulated. If you leak a LOT, the Lily Padz will leak. After that first couple of weeks, they are fool-proof.

Can't comment on the Lilly padz since I've never used them, but it looks like I don't have to!

I have used a band/girdle after my last few kids (I'm expecting #8) and I swear it makes a world of difference. After one of them I bought one of the bands that is specifically made for postpartum, but hated it because the giant strip of velcro was just uncomfortable. I ended up returning that and going back to just regular shapewear (I prefer the ones that are like bike shorts with a super high waist). A lot of people figure I do it because I don't like the bloaty saggy belly look, which is partly true, but I have found that it really makes a difference in the way my insides all settle back into where they should be. After a couple of my babies things had problems resettling and it caused a great deal of pain. We checked for appendicitis, gall stones, the typical "I feel like I'm going to die b/c my insides are hurting so much" kind of things, but all of that has always been clear. The other option that was presented to me was that sometimes as your internal organs return to where they should be after your uterus shrinks, they may not settle in right as they should be at first and that it can be extremely painful. Whatever it was that caused the pain after those babies, it was much worse than my labors (pit induced, w/out pain meds). Sure enough, when wearing something that held everything in for the next couple of babies, I was able to avoid whatever had been so painful with the others. It's possible it was just coincidence, but I'll take whatever I can get! :)

Oh, and the added bonus is that my waist/belly/hips size shrinks much faster, returning me to normal clothes very quickly!

I loved the lily padz! I used them while nursing my twins. I actually bought 2 pair because of having to nurse so often. That way one pair could dry completely while I nursed. They do stop the leaking and you don't have to worry about them coming off, I even slept with mine on..no bra. My nipples never dried out and I didn't ever have the pain of them sticking to me like the disposable pads did.

I had a lot of nipple issues and couldn't stand the feeling of disposables on my skin, and I found a washable/reusable pad, that I absolutely loved! They were great with my leakage, although when the baby slept through the night, I did sometimes need to put two in there. I'm sure that there are many different types out there, but I didn't have problems with these sticking, and they truly wicked away the moisture. And they hid a bit of that "big nipple" look.

I used Lily Pads (and loved them by the way) ... until I got Mastitis. Lily Pads actually keep your breasts from leaking, a process that needs to happen in order to relieve pressure when your breasts get full. I would recommend them for occasional use (because they seriously work) but not for everyday use.
I landed on Johnson & Johnson nursing pads. I tried every brand available and they were the softest. I also bought washable ones but even still, the J&J ones felt the best.

Lily Padz are great for leaking. Keep in mind, though, that leaking milk helps the breasts not become overly full, which protects you from plugged ducts and mastitis. I agree with taking them off both sides when you nurse (to let the other side drip). They're good, but if they are making you overfull, especially in the early days, buy disposables. :)

LOVE Bella Bands!!!! Well made and very useful!

I have heard of Lily Pads but would be worried about moisture and warmth = yeast infection of the nipple.
