Legoland is awesome for kids between 3 and 12! We went around Thanksgiving one year and it was great because the San Diego kids weren't out of school yet so the crowds both there and at Sea World were minimal. So maybe find out when they get out for Christmas break and plan around that. We stayed at the Marriott on Catalina Island and it was great. The property is a little older but the location is beautiful and just a short drive to Legoland.

Have fun!

I don't know what December is like, but we went in June, and had the best time! We stayed at the Homewood Suites in Carlsbad. It was just a few minutes from the park. They provide breakfast every day and dinner Mon-Thurs during the week. We plan on going back!

Hi there...we used to live 10 minutes from Legoland and went all the time. Christmas is a GREAT time to go bc of all the great Christmas decor up, the Lego Christmas tree, etc. Even though its California, it does get "cold" so definitely bring warm clothes (although I know not compared to Dallas winters!) A great place to stay is the resort/hotel on either side of the park, that way you can walk to Legoland and not pay for parking. The resort is Pacific Palisades Hotel and Resort in Carlsbad. Note that Legoland is NOT Disneyland...its not a theme park based on thrill rides, Legoland is geared for kids, not teenagers or even adults...it is truly a "family park". We loved it. The best part about it, is that it is not even remotely as crowded as Disneyland...You'll love the short lines and all the variety of things to do.

We just made our second trip to Legoland. (The first one was just last summer.) We LOVE it. The park is really geared towards young kids. Even in the summer, it was only really busy late morning to early afternoon. If you get there first thing in the morning, walk past the first few attractions (specifially the safari ride) and catch those rides later. The park empties out around 4:00.
We have stayed in San Diego at the Hyatt Mission Bay twice, which is about a half hour drive. We were doing other things in SD as well. Our freinds have stayed at the Sheraton at Legoland and have been very happy.
Be sure to bring a change of clothes for the pirate area. Lockers are available right next to those wet attractions. I love the snack/food selection. There are lots of healthy options (pricey of course.)
Check mousesavers.com for ticket discounts. (One listed is Ares travel which worked for us.)
Let me know if you would like more information.

I haven't been there, but i've heard from multiple friends that it is a waste of time. I haven't spoken to anyone impressed with Legoland. Disney is a whole different story!
I know this probably doesn't help much, but I wouldn't want anyone to waste their money!

We went to Legoland last October and it was great! There were no lines whatsoever. Join your kids up for the Brickmaster club and the Lego club (Lego Club is free online). They will send you a magazine which has free Legoland Tickets for the kids. It saved us $100 on admission! Have fun! Legoland is great for the young and the old!

My family just went this past Spring Break and we stayed on the property that has a private entrance to the Legoland park. It is very nice and just a short walk or they have a shuttle that will take you to the front door and pick you up at the same place. I believe it is a Sheraton property but cannot remember. We went to the beach and since we had a rental car we just went all over the place. Many people also went to Disneyland since it is about an hour north. Hope this helps.

We went to Legoland about two years ago with my two sons age 12 and 8. They LOVED it! It is not for everyone though. I agree with the previous poster, that if you like lots of thrill rides, then Disney would be better. BUT, if like us, your kids are not big on the scary rides and LOVE Legos, then you will have a great time! My older son could have sat in the Lego area and just built Legos all day. We went in August and it was not horribly crowded. Don't know about Christmas, but I would think that would be a good time. Southern California is not as warm as what we Texans are used to. Even in August, the ocean was FREEZING! Go to the Legoland website and sign up for email offers. We got some good deals on our tickets. Depending on how much time you have, you might consider a two day ticket for not much more. My kids loved the Lego factory and the Lego store where you could buy individual Legos by the pound. Of course, now they have a store like this at NorthPark, but at the time, we had never seen this. They have a much bigger selection than locally.

Don't let people discourage you from going. We too were told that our kids were too old and would be bored, but we knew our kids. They have no interest in Disney or even Six Flags, but they both loved Legoland and have asked to go again. We were somewhat disappointed in Sea World, since we had been to the one in San Antonio. The San Diego one is not a big and does not have a waterpark.

We went last summer with our 3 year old and 8 year old and they both loved it. I knew our 3 year old was too young for Disneyland and did not want to fight the crowds! We also stayed at the Sheraton right behind the Park. You can walk into a private back entrance at Legoland and go back to your room for naps, etc.. We went for two days. It is a pretty small park, but with our kids being so far apart in age it was great for both of them. Also, San Diego is only 30 minutes away so you can enjoy the zoo, Wild Animal Park and other activities there. It will be cold at night!
