Is the 2Nd Time Around Really Easier?

I was curious if it's myth or fact that it's really easy to get pregnant the second time?

I just had my first child, a beautiful little girl who makes my heart melt with every smile, almost 3 months ago. It took over 2 years to get pregnant with several failed IUI's and IVF... it was the accupuncture that I believed worked. Because of my age, we want to start trying for our 2nd child in a couple of months. Everyone tells me that I'll get pregnant so fast because you're always more fertile right after you've had a baby. So I'm curious if it's true, what makes you more fertile?

What can I do next?

For me it was harder. I also conceived via ART treatments. I got pregnant on transfer #3. I unfortunately lost my triplets at 24 weeks. As we began ttc again it took my 4 transfers to get pregnant and my numbers are iffy. If you have any questions there are many women that are very helpful at www.fertilethoughts.com

I will just tell you my little story...I took all the fertility pills to get pregnant with baby #1, just over two years, then three years with all the same pills and luckily one IVF and got baby #2. There is 5 years between baby #1 and #2. So when baby #2 was about 3 months old and I was still very sick the doc tested my thyroid and we found baby #3!!! That one even surprised the doctor, and is the gift that I never knew I needed until I recieved it. So now I have one daughter and two boys 14 months apart! So with me the second one was a bit harder then the first but baby #3 was so easy that I had no idea I was even pregnant. I can tell you that each pregnancy was a bit easier as I was not as scared about the unknown, and baby #2 was an easier birth then baby #1. Baby #3 was going to be even easier until he tried a few "tricks" trying to get out and had to be an emergency C section! SO if you WANT more try it all until God blesses you with another, but watch out for surprises along the way! Be blessed and I wish you luck getting your next little gift.

I don't know if it has anything to do with being more fertile, but everyone I know that had problems getting pregnant didn't try anything to stop from getting pregnant after they finally got pregnant the first time. They all got pregnant really fast. It's like your body finally figured out what it's suppost to do. I'm sure it will be really easy for you to. Good Luck! J.

I do think that once your body knows how to"do it" (ie go all the way from conception to baby), it is as if a channel is opened and it's a lot easier to have a second and a third, etc. I was almost 40 when we had our first, and will be 41 with our second because we thought "we had better start trying soon" and I got pregnant on the first try!
Good Luck!

It took us over 2 yrs to get pregnant with our 1st as well. We didn't do any any IVF, it was all natural so I don't know if that will make a difference for you. We decided we wanted another baby when our 1st was 6 mo old. We figured it would take a while, but we were pregnant the next month. The doctor told us that having a baby had prepared everything for the next and there wasn't anything "blocking" the process. With our 3rd we got pregnant on the 1st try. Hopefully you have as much luck!

I think your body just knows what to do the second time around because it has already been through it. I am sure hormones play a big roll as well. I am happy to hear that accupuncture worked for you....I too attribute my accupuncture and herbs to our success in getting pregnant. Good luck on the second and enjoy your little one!

I think my husband tripped and I ended up pregnant the first time. The second time, we literally had to use progesterone cream and tine intercourse for 10 months and ended up pregnant (but my stress levels were different). With #3, I got pregnant the second month we decided to have another baby....but without timing anything.

My mom had 8 miscarriages and then started under regular chiropractic care - she conceived me and then my brother. This was 34 years ago....so there were no fertility specialists at the time.

I've known people with both problems. Pregnant right away the first time, then took 5 years the second time, but I've known more friends that took forever getting pregnant the first time, then got pregnant with second and third babies right away. I don't know about being more fertile, but I've heard that your body remembers being pregnant and it's like it says to itself, hey, I remember this, let's do it again! It sounds corny, but people have said it's true.

My husband and I went thru fertility issues for almost 4 years to finally get blessed with out daughter. Our OB said come back and he would get us started with the same process when we were ready for our next. So my husband and I used no bithcontrol as we figured it took us 4 years to get preggo with her. Well, long story short we got 3 for the price of 1!! We were pregnant 5 months after we gave birth to our daughter and had a son, then when my son was 8 months old we got pregnant AGAIN and blessed with another girl. The last 2 were not planned, but such a great unexpected suprise! Good luck!

I' with whoever said you'll get 50-50 responses on this. I had to get artificial insemination with mine. It worked the second cylce but we had been trying different meds and with different drs for a couple of years. My baby is 10 mos old and we have not been on BCP this whole time. I am also breastfeeding. So, we went back to the dr and he said that when we were ready to come back and we would start the process again. He also said that at 35, 2 out of 3 eggs are bad so the chances for getting pregnant and keeping your baby becomes lower. We are just waiting for our baby to become a year old before weaning then going to start the whole thing again.

well I think it was easier the second time around. It took my husband and I 3-4 months with my daughter to get pregnant and when we started trying for the second it happend the firsts month. my friend need fertility pills to get pregnant with her son and she just got a surprise that she was pregnant. She said that thought she couldn't get pregnant without fertility pills... my guess is that your body already knows what to do so it just easier( there is no scientific research, but from all the moms I've talk to it was easier the second time around.

My guess is you could find just as many people who say yes it is easier to get pregnant the second time as you'll find people saying no it isn't. Both of mine were conceived on the first try. I have friends who have been just as lucky. I have friends who got pregnant the first time easily and are having trouble having their second or third. My guess is everyone is different - I know, real helpful. I say, if you can handle the kids being so close together, than you might as well start trying when you are ready.
Best of luck to you,
M.

I can't answer for what statistics do or don't say, but for me, it was quite the opposite. My first was ans "oops, we goofed the BCPs", this one (due in November) was almost 2 years of trying. Depending on what caused you fertility problems in the first place, I would expect ttc #2 (trying to concieve) will be just as physically difficult, though I have heard that emotionally, 2nd time dealing with IF is not as bad becuase you understand more about what's happening.

If you are Christian, there is a support site for Christian women that are or have experinced infertility. It is called Hannah's Prayer ( www.hannahsprayer.org ) It is the only thing that has made this past year bareable.
