I Think I Found One!

So you all know (if you read my other questions) that my husband and I are looking into a full-time nany for our 3 kids. We LOVE our current sitter and are struggling with this, but she can only take one of our kids on a full-time basis. The other two are in school and she is not in our district, nor does she offer before and after care. I did get a response from one girl who was interested in watching our kids and she fit what I was looking for in a sitter. The phone screen went really well and she is leaving her current family because they only need her part-time and can't afford to pay her full-time, we need and can afford full-time care. The added benefit to someone coming to our house is that I can get every other Friday off. She will get that too. But that gives me days to spend with my 4 year old alone, and we can join the other kids at school for lunch if we want to. Her rates are beyond affordable! I just don't want to make it h*** o* her...but if we pay her what she is asking now, we can afford to give her raises every few months, which I think works out well for both sides. What do you think?

Also - for mom's with full-time nanny's - what do your contracts look like?? Anything specific you can think that I should put in there?

I think your potential set up sounds great, you have to entertain it. If your current sitter cannot understand the situation and the benifits for you then oh well. you need to look out for what is in the best interest for your kids/family. We as parents always have to make the hard desicions, sucks I know. I work full time and have a sitter come to the house mon. thru Fri. I love it. I pay a flat rate 1 kid or 3 kids it averages out so when there is no school I pay the same. I can budget and she can budget knowing in advance what $$ is coming. I also giver her a week vacation of her choosing per year paid. This locks them in who else does that. The flat rate is for 5 days if I take a day off she gets paid. If she calls in no pay. I am not supporting a ton of call ins here. I told her If our checks are not affected then either will hers.

It works out great!!

You definately need to put something in there about how much time you neeed her to give you if/when she gives her notice. It is hard to find someone when you are in a crunch, so I would think about how much time you think you need to be able to find a new person.

Have you done a reference/background check? You mentioned a phone interview - has she met your 3 kids yet?
Will you pay her for sick days if she is ill (and you'll need a back up plan). Will she ever travel with you? You'll need her on your insurance in case she ever needs your car. Good luck - I hope she is a good fit.
