I made the big jump to contacts today and my goodness these things are difficult..
I have a hard time getting them in and it burns the hell out of my eye when the solution is still on it and my eyes are dry and itchy.. even though they are the soft one day throw away lenses.
Can someone tell me if this gets easier if not then im going to go back to glasses even though I dont want to

What can I do next?

That doesn't sound normal to me. I've worn contacts for the last 25 years and even starting out it didn't burn or hurt when I put the contacts in. Are you popping the lenses out of the packet and putting right in your eyes? Perhaps try rinsing with plain saline first to see if that helps. If not, please talk to your eye doctor. Your eyes should not be dry and itchy.

And of course, remember to only wear them for a few hours the first day, then a couple more the second, etc.

Something doesn't sound right. I used contacts for about 25 years (including the one-day) and never had any pain, even with the solution still on the soft lenses.

I would call your optometrist about this. Perhaps the brand just isn't a good match or there's an issue with your eyes that makes you sensitive to the solution. In either case, it would be good to get the doctor's input.

It shouldn't burn when you put them in. I'd ask your doc about a different solution... maybe you're sensitive to the one they gave you. Yes, putting them in gets easier. I remember how frustrating it was at first! You can also use eyedrops for the dryness, but make sure they say they safe to use with contacts (not all eyedrops are)

They do get easier. Switch to plain saline solution to rinse before you put them in your eyes. Sometimes people are more sensitive to the multipurpose solution. If you have allergies, it can make your eyes feel itchier with contacts in. I had a hard time at first, but no problems now.

Some solutions irritate my eyes to no end. I tried using a generic once to save some money and it was so h*** o* my eyes. I use Opti-Free which is great.

Just make sure you are washing your hands with soap and water before putting the contacts in and don't dry them with anything that may put fibers on your hands (i.e. your typical plush hand towel). I just leave my hands wet.

Make sure the contact is not inside out. You can test it by putting it in a crease where your hand folds - close your hand just a little, enough to bend the contact. If it folds like a taco, it's right. If it folds out - like sticking to the side of your hand, it's inside out. This will be very painful if you try to put it in inside out. Don't assume becuase you've just taken it out of the packaging that it's right.

Put a drop of solution in your eye before putting the contact in. Also, put the contact on the tip of your finger and "fill" it with a couple drops of solution right before putting it in your eye. This will keep both your eye and your contact hydrated and it will feel much better.

As for them being hard to get in - that just comes with practice. I've been wearing contacts for 20+ years and I can put them in in the pitch dark by now - and I did this weekend camping.... ugh.

Stick to it and give yourself some time to get used to them. In the meantime, go get yourself a pair of super-cute (non Rx!) sunglasses for the summer!

It should not burn when you put them in. You should wash your hands before putting them in and make sure you have thoroughly rinsed off all soap.
I also rinse my lenses with saline solution before putting them in for extra comfort.

I have worn lenses for 20 years and I do remember that it takes a little while to get comfortable putting them in and taking them out. Disposable lenses are very thin and more difficult to handle, so you just have to practice, practice, practice...

Good luck!

Did your eye doctor tell you to slowly titrate up to wearing them all day? When I wore contacts the doctor would tell me to wear them for 1 hour the first day, 3 hours the next day, 6 hours the day after that, etc, so I could get used to them.
You definitely need to rinse all the solution off. That stuff hurts.
Getting the contacts in and out does indeed take practice. But yes, it does get easier. I wore contact lenses from age 13 to 30. Have you considered surgery? Well worth the cost in my opinion.

Holy cow! I JUST got contacts too. This past Saturday was my 1 week follow up with my doc. I told him that I could always "feel" the contacts on my eyes and they felt dry and itchy and asked him if maybe I have dry eyes. He said "Its possible. Lets try these contacts made for dry eyes (I had no idea there were different contacts!). MADE A WORLD of difference!! They don't bother me at all. SO - talk to your doctor. Even if you think its silly tell him how they're feeling - he may very well be able to make it better. Good luck!

If it burns when you put the solution in your eyes you might be allergic to the solution. I can't use just any drops and sailine in my eyes. When I was younger they thought it was the contacts come to find out it was not. I wish I knew the name of the one I use. It's the generic to bach and luams renew or something like that.

Good luck and God Bless!!!

It takes a couple of weeks to get used to lenses. Wear them for gradually longer period seach day. Minutes at first then a few hours, before you jump to all day. If they still hurt, have your fit checked. You can scratch your corneas easily if the fit is wrong or you don't clean them, etc.

Try natural tears every day to keep your eyes from being too dry (NOT the drops for red eyes). I find it best to put them in every morning and eventing.

I have gas permeable lenses (essentially hard lenses). Count your blessings!!! But it I can wear these for 20 years and barely notice them, you will do fine. Stick with it!! Congrats!

Mine felt fine the first day, but I did have a struggle putting them in and taking them out for about a week or so. The solution shouldnt be burning.... you might need to try a different brand.
