this being my first child, im not really sure what im supposed to do. i have been refered to the same exact OB/GYN that my mom went to when pregnant with me. all my mom had to say was "oh that doctor was alright." that scares the heck out of me! i dont know if i should go to that OB/GYN. should i go to that OB/GYN and make a decision of my own. should i look for another OB/GYN. i dont even know how to look for another OB/GYN. i need help and all the mothers in my family say im over reacting. all i want is a healthy baby and a safe pregnancy WITH A GOOD DOCTOR!!!

part 2

i gave the OB/GYN a chance and regret from the bottom of my heart. she was so unbelievable rude. i was actually being yelled at by this woman. im scared to complain about my OB/GYN to my family bc i feel i have caused them enough grief.

What can I do next?

You need to decide what type of birth you want. I too live in West Covina and decided on a home birth because I did not like to ob's at Queen of the Valley. I had a midwife with both kids and everything went great. My midwife teaches a great pregnancy nutrition class in Pasadena. Women don't realize how important nutrition is during pregnancy because their ob's don't discuss it with them. You could also contact your insurance and ask who their providers are. I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have. Congratulations!!

First of all, congratulations! You are going to be a great mama! Ignore all the others who say that 18 year olds are too young and cant be good moms- they are ALL wrong! I know plenty of young moms in my MOMS club who had their babies young.
Okay, now listen very carefully; OBGYN's work for YOU! The obgyn you choose largly depends on the type of birth you want and your overall philosophy on birth. If you want a completely natural birth without any drugs, then you may not want an OBgyn at all. I had a great certified midwife instead of an OB for my 2nd birth and she was amazing! You don't have to choose an OBgyn, you can choose a midwife at a birthing center. (I have a great one if you email me). Or if you do not want a natural birth, there are plenty of doctors out there who would be willing to induce your labor or give you an elected c-section if you wanted one. In other words, you need to find out what YOU want and then interview a doctor based on what YOUR needs are. I suggest reading Dr. Sears books, or get on his website www.askdrsears.com for more info.

E.,

if you have insurance they can recommend the doctors in your group, there are lots of women groups that you can go to which offer all womens needs including ob/gyn. i have found that they seem to be very easy to work with and very understanding, they also usually offer the choice of a woman doctor which i found very comforting.

good luck and congratulations.

WOW, at 18 I would have been lost too! Chances are you are a little overly freeked out right now. I don't live near West Covina, so I don't know any OB/GYNs in that area. If you work, I would try asking a few of the Moms there. They may be able to give you a name or 2 to check into. other than that, I'm not sure who I'd go to at 18. Most of your friends probably won't be having a baby for at LEAST 5 years.

On the plus side for the doc you're scheduled for... You know that you where born healthy 18 years ago, and now he's had 18 MORE years to get even better at it! That's a lot of time to "learn" what he's doing. If he wasn't any good, he'd most likely be working somewhere else!

Hope it helps ~J.
