Under layers and layers of bubblewrap

Baked inside a cake - if that'd work?? Maybe inside rice krispy treats since that requires no baking.

what kind of gift card - a Baskin Robbins gift card could be put into a quart of BR ice cream. A Home Depot gift card could be placed in a HD giant bucket or 2" PVC pipe with end-clamps.

inside a huge block of ice (you can see the giftcard, but can't use it yet!)

inside a giant jar of m&ms or jelly beans

What store/company is the GiftCard to?

I would try to incorporate that somehow...
...like if it's for Starbucks you could get a coffee mug (dollar store) and fill it w/brown tissue paper (so it looks like coffee) and put the GiftCard in it somehow?

Something like that.

I am a lover of tissue paper...you can make anything out of tissue paper!

My BIL once got me a GiftCard and he put it inside a pair of knit mittens he got me, I didn't realize it was in there until I put my hands in to try on the gloves! :)

You could always bake the GiftCard into a cake/cupcake/muffin/coffeecake? That might be cool?

My friends do this often: Wrap the card, and then wrap the wrapped card in a box, then wrap the wrapped box in a bigger box, wrap that one in another bigger box and so on and so on. What's under the tree looks like a big box.. then, with each unwrapping, is exposed yet again another box! It's a lot of fun and the anticipation builds with each unwrapping... :)

My husband once got me some jewelry for Christmas. The plush box it came in was stuffed in a box that was full of shredded paper. That box was stuffed in a bigger box that was also full of shredded paper, and so on and so forth for 6 or 7 boxes. Let me tell you, that is the most work I've ever had to do unwrapping a present that was so small in size! :)

You could buy a book or magazine the person likes and place the card inside. If you are a little crafty, you could make a bookmark using plastic needlework sheets--the kind you thread yarn on to make a pattern like with cross stitch--and leave the middle part empty to put the gift card there. I like the jar of candy option but make sure it is something the recipient likes. You also use those picture coasters that you insert pictures into and place the card inside one.
I would caution against baking the actual card inside a cake. A former coworker did this and the heat ruined the magnetic line. The card didn't melt but it was ruined. Maybe a layer cake?

My friends brother wraps all of her gifts in duct tape. It's a pain in the a$$, but funny.
